    Knew that, didn't know:
The race truck was a 1954 therefor barndoor era.
So, not a barndoor Type 2 Transporter, but a Type 2 Transporter from the "barndoor" era?

First VW I drove off road, matter of fact, first vehicle I drove, was 1956 Deluxe Sunroof Sedan with a Revmaster engine.

Wish I had it now. Maybe not this summer.

Re: Who did run that race in 1977?

Your right Dave all of ours were 67's and our class 11 was still in factory paint. When we changed it to 5/1600 we re-painted it thesame blue(or close to it). I should have said I never had a stock street vw (classic) as a daily driver, I always set them up for offroad use. Even Hanks and mine daily drivers were 67 baja bug and Hank drove a red 67 class 11 look alike but running a zenith. For the 83 Firecracker I finally relented and welded pivots on the 67 and changed it to irs and rack and pinion steering. Don't get me wrong I liked Saddleback but we had to pick and chose our races because we were so tight on money.

Hey I'm old so it could be that the mag was 1978 or even 9. Don't know for sure but I now have two copies.

Ok I found them and I was wrong it was Hot Vw it was July 1976. Some of the details are wrong in the article but it shows the build. We tried a straight axle in it but then switched it back to reduction box with anti hop. Also the engine was a 2180 I think Hank just said he used 88mm P&L to keep details quiet since it was going to be raced. Our class 11 build was VW Greats June 76
