Lulz...they're ancient reptiles that have been in our deserts since the Pleistocene (that's from 2,588,000 to 11,700 years ago). I'm sure they keep some grasses, weeds, plants or insects in check as they evolved before mammals, birds, crocodiles, snakes, and lizards. They are one of the oldest creatures on the earth. There must be something special there.

Once were 1,000 tortoises per sq. mile in the Mojave. Treading lightly will get us all further.

So I am ashamed to admit that after 20 years in the desert I just learned recently what importance the Tortise plays in the desert. The Tortise basically makes the the homes / habitats for almost every other species in the desert. The average Tortise digs over 100 holes that are used for other animals in the Desert Ecosystem.

That is one reason why the off course damage is one thing that is heavily scrutinized. Anyway. Im sure most of you knew all that but I was proud I learned something in my how to take a tortise for a walk class....

"Track width" means the very outside he tire as in if the rule calls for 85" you must be able to drive between two brick walls 85.1" wide and not touch, for instance I measured the outside of th tread... Thought I was good... Not so much......
