Re: Rear end break in?
I never did any break in and ran redline 140-250w. In tens years of racing I never had a rear go out on me. I would rebuilt it at the end of every season.

Re: Rear end break in?
I've always wondered about break in procedure on axles considering I never broke in the axle in my truck when I bought it new. But I guess an oz. of prevention is worth a lb. of cure. Can anybody tell me whether they use synthetic with a locker?

I called Eaton and they said it didn't matter what type of fluid is used synthetic or conventional, So that answers that.

Re: Rear end break in?
Currie recommends a good high quality NON SYNTHECTIC 85/140 gear oil for break in, they recommend and sell Torco. The worst thing you can do on a new 9" gear set is hop in and drive the truck like you stole. You want to be "easy" on the gear set. Drive the truck for about 15-20 minutes, then let it cool down. Do this process a couple of times and the gear set should be good to go. Currie uses Motive Gear

I don't want to get too off topic, but to anyone who knows they're stuff when it comes to ring and pinions, should burrs form on a hardened ring gear like this? To me they shouldn't burr if they are hardened properly. Otherwise what would cause this to happen?.......

I just had a set do this to me, less then 300 miles. The set before had nearly 2000 miles and still looked better than these. I don't think mine were hardened right.

Who set the gears up? Did they fix them for you?

We are shipping the 3rd member back to see if they will warranty the gears.
