Re: GPS file & Tech Day Concern

were there no markings on the course at all (markers with any info on them) ?

you dont remember passing the last checkpoint and guestimate how far you are from there?

reset your trip at the start of the race and be able to give an idea of where you are at?

Radio issue, I never heard your transmition over the radio. have you done any radio testing to make sure that your radio is tuned and works well ?

Seems you have a lot of issues to iron out that you want everyone else to do for you and cater to your every need. just my $.02

I know we need more seat time and experience with gps and it was a job doing first lap without gps but I did just fine thanks to the course.markings. I was just a little upset about not.being able to relay were I was. But I did get a nice couple hours if sleep under truck in sand using neck collar as a pillow lol.
During the next "fun run" have your GPS skills dialed in and create your own map so you dont have to rely on anyone else. Its easier that way. What they think is a caution may not be for you and vise versa.

And it really does sound like your blaming PCI/HDRA. might want to apologize!

If it came across like that I apologize, being upset and blaming are two different things. It all worked out in the end and we will definately work on the GPS thing. I didnt see anyone stopping on the pre fun run though. I basically just went by eye sight, except for the areas that had two or three arrows i slowed down for all of those. I def admit I may have overdrove and my co pilot and I def. need more work with getting shifting in sync so we dont kill anymore transmission. He has never done anything like this before so its all new to him. Going to try and get my prostetic by next race and see if I cant shift my own.

However my radio does work, I talk to weatherman at Primm.

Primm is also only like 4 miles at its farthest point from main. Next time out testing do some testing like you would at a normal open desert race to see how far your reception is. PCI / racerx both can tune antennas and test your signal

HDRA did a great job marking the race course. my only advice is they should try different color markings.
Green marks the course and orange the cautions (slow down)

Re: GPS file & Tech Day Concern

Ill check but im pretty sure my radio is fine, cause pci did the antenna. Also dad was at main pit and he heard me the whole race and I heard him and we were talking where I was broke down. Plus I heard weatherstrip perfectly clear. He kept communicating to philo and I tried speaking to both saying weather man do you come in, and this is 1434, and tried speaking to philo as well. I think maybe they were just overwhelmed, but if they honestly did not hear me then need to find out why I heard them. Could be because I was speaking into the helmet with it not on, dad said I sounded soft when I was broken down and figure i had helmet off. I do know at the start of the race and throughout the race we weere getting interference on our race channel, someone else was on same channel but we were able to deal with it.

Did learn those handhelds kind of suck, I guess my remote pit had trouble communicating, but we never stop at the remote pit.

Kind of wish I would of knew why people put two radios in at the beginning, sucks having to flip back and forth.

Just my $.02 here, but when did Keith say/write that he was going fast on the fun run? I read his post numerous times and did not get that out of it whatsoever.
And same thing with the "blaming" - again just comes across as he was upset/bummed on the gps file he got. YES, granted more seat time, radio and gps testing are in order, but seriously guys how many of you
have ever driven your truck/vehicle in a race with only 1 hand and your co-driver having to shift for you?!

    I'm guessing zero.

You'll get it Keith, just keep plugging away. And next time you go out testing, let me know as I have a radio & 4wd and can see about communication issues. My wife won't read a damn manual to save her life, but it's your best friend Do you guys have a specific frequency for the team? Either way, since I'm just over the CleveNat from you, we could test to see?

The corse was marked well with arrows and the gates at the turns im not saying that, the gps file had no marking or mile markers. I did see paper plates with black writing saying like 30mm, but did not see them every mile a lot more on the second half of the course. The arrows were marked very well, that is how I was able to do first lap through dust with sunrise and no gps. Though in those u turns I was blind lol that was interesting hoping you would not rearend someone or go to far off course. I followed that little kia one time and he went way off course so i went off course out of the turn lol

Re: GPS file & Tech Day Concern

I agree with you F.A.S.T. GPS file should of been available for all to download using the webpage.
I ran with my Gps off, since I did not have the file. And preran the race course in a Polaris RZR with no Gps.
I was under the impression that the file might had been available at contingency....
