Az registration in Ca?
I was ticketed by CHP on Evan Hewes this weekend for OHV operated on a highway. I have a buggy titled as SPCN with AZ plates. CHP claimed my registration was invalid, but did not write any mechanical violations, just stated my car was an OHV.
I plan to fight it. Has anybody successfully or unsuccessfully done this?

Fight it. What have you got to lose? If you were cited under the wrong statute, or can prove you ar legally licensed in AZ, the charges should be thrown out of court.
Good Luck!

Oh this will be interesting for sure! I'm assuming you're licensed in Az and a resident there also correct? I've got no real info but for sure want to hear how this turns out if you do go to court on it. When I lived in Az I had a st. plated dirt bike that I often wondered what would happen if I was caught with it on the streets in California.
I know one thing, in california we got ticketed for no mudflaps years ago. We asked if we needed mudflaps why there's countless '32 roadsters running around fenderless and they aren't harassed. They said there was a weight restriction and anything above a certain weight needed them. I would imagine if your buggy has a windshield and body paneling that really you're not much different running down the street then a typical old hot rod...

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure you are out of luck on this one. What is considered street legal in AZ is not necessarily considered street legal in CA. I believe no matter what classification you hold in AZ, if it doesn't meet the CA requirements then it is not legal in CA and the CHP has the ability to cite you.

I would think that Arizona and California have state reciprocity agreements or I would get ticketed for not having a front plate among other things.
Assuming you have a AZ plate, insuarance, and registration I would definately fight it.

Window tint case law favors the AZ registered vehicle owner.
Wonder how riding a AZ street legal quad or sxs would go over with CHP?
I've seen a Polaris Ranger at 50 MPH on AZ HWY 74, though it didn't look fun.

Fight it. I know people that have street plated prerun buggies in California. Mudflaps or fenders are required if you can't produce a weight slip that shows the vehicle weighs less than 1500 pounds. Should be an easy fix, but the biggest issue is, as long as you have license plates on the vehicle, assigned to the vehicle, and it is currently registered, insured, etc... Then the cop will lose in court. Most likely this guy has a hard-on for OHV stuff and you happened to run into him that day. Kind of like the cops that don't like window tint, as Drake pointed out. I have seen SxSs on the streets of California with Az plates. They haven't been hassled as long as they are following the laws. Hell, we let golf carts drive on the streets. I was in Az. a couple weeks ago and saw quads running around Prescott. Loved it! Hope I get the opportunity to do the same in the future. Point being, unless you don't have a legal registartion for the car in Az., you should be able to win this, bummer is, you will have to go to court in Imperial County to fight it. Hope you live in Yuma! Go get 'em!

I DD my f150 for years with no front plate and no covers on my 9" lights with zero issues from any form of Law Enforcement. Little things like that tend not to be much of an issues here unless you are doing something else to draw attention to yourself. I can see how a cop would notice a buggy driving down the highway though regardless of any other "attention getters".
