This is the funny thing to me! If all the eco-tech guys would enter in class 3000 there maybe 20 guys that would run in that class as everyone that is a proponent of the eco-tech talks about higher car count, higher pay back bla bla bla. A lot of times there are only a few a-arm 3000 cars racing. So basically they could take over the class and not change a thing the only difference is that they would not be called 5U. If it takes off like everyone of them thinks the 5U traditionalist may make the change to 3000 and they would win!!!! No rules change, No grief, no more bickering, no worries Weezy would win!!!!

This crap I'm reading here is taking all the fun out of the class for me. I don't know if anybody gives a ratz azz or not, but I'm about done with it. Go ahead and race 3000 cars and call them 5u if it makes you feel good. I'm going to sell my 5u and build something else.

With that said, Does anyone have a picture of what they are using for secondary door latch, stock doors, full body.
Thank you.
We decided to upgrade to a tube chasis 5U car... Plan was to sell the full body car and build a new chasis. I could not sell the car for a reasonable price, so we decided to canabalize the old car.
That is where things have gone astray ..IRT a class-5U car.
I found a bare bones unfinished class-12 chasis which we intended to use as the basis for the new car...you know, shorten it, hang some Baja glass, and get back to 5U racing with Jim and Wendell, etc.... I striped our old car and parted out all the "junk" parts and sold that bug body and chasis...which is what I did. We also made a ton of upgrades in transmission and shocks...mainly.
I wanted to not lose a season and money was tight, so I made some compromises so Desert Runners Racing could get back to racing at the start of the 2012 season...I built up the chasis as a full-up class-12 car. That way we saved the cost and time of hanging the baja glass ($1500-2000) and the cost of building a new T-4 powerplant ($6-7K) this season. Additionally, I caught rumor that the new class-12 motor option was online for 2012...which I helped push along, personally. The "old" bottom end, which I had overhauled one race before, would meet the new class-12 rules! More money savings!
It has all worked out and we are going too finish the season in class-12 this year. At the end of the season, i will reconsider modifying her to 5U wheel-base specs. I guess money and our success (or lack there of) in class-12 will also influence the decision process at the end of the season.
I really miss having a bigger motor!! This thing scoots OK, but there is no replacement for CC's and dual carbs!!!
Somebody said bring back the fun in this thread? Blasts from the past:
2004 Erik Earnest's car prep
2008 - Varshay blew his motor in the silt at Vegas to Reno. Sorry Varshay, this seems to be the only pics I have of your car! Kind of relevant to the thread, though, lol!

Won't miss me for that long! I'll be at the 1000! New owner has called me several times today. He saw car 1st time in person last night and is testing today! So far he's pretty impressed!

Thank you.
We use a Yamaha Snowmobile hood latch. Kinda like the rubber hood hold down on old style bajas ect. These are much better quality rubber than what I have seen lately on those rubber hold downs from empi or whatever.
We mounted the rubber strap part to the cage just above the door latch, then mounted the "pin" to the door itself. Seems to work very well and definitely keeps the door closed when you try to open it while the secondary is latched. It is also easy to "latch" while belted in.
Here is a pic of the one on my snowmobile (which happens to be at my work right now so I could snap a quick pic)
I will get a pic of it on our car when I get out to the race shop this weekend.
