2007 B1K finisher 5/16, 2010 B1k finisher class 5
VR6 weight is 180 Kg. (~396 lbs) actual weight.
Weight of an Ecotec is around 350lbs for a complete engine as a comparison!!
More info on the VR6 than you'll probably ever need:

I did own a Golf GTI VR6 back in 2004? Very smooth and powerful engine in that stock form...don't have any quantitiative reliability info though. My personal experience is the engine NEVER gave me a problem...that doesn't mean I'm gonna have one in an off road race car though...

Quote: What are the rules concerning this "new" VW 16V motor? ...and the specs? This is the first I have heard about this engine option? Is it already good to go at SCORE (Bill Savage was mentioned)?
According to SCORE Rules ANY 4 cylinder VW water cooled motor is legal. Displacement is open. No limits on CC's or number of valves. The problem is I don't know of any 4 cylinder VW motors that are bigger than 2 liters. To run a stock or fairly stock motor you need at least the 2.4L to push a 5 Unlimited well. If you take a 2.0 L VW tdi motor and bore it or stroke it to 2.4 or bigger then the cost start going up and I'm not interested.
The VR6 motor sounds ok power wise but then your at six cylinder and the 4 cylinder only rule has to be changed
On Another note:
Good conversation going here. I love all the car pics and updates. Pretty cool thread going here!!
Keeping with the theme of people posting pics and stuff. Here is a really crappy video I made in 2007 that has some Class 5 action in it.
OK, it's been a week on the motor survey, and here are the results:
And here is the verification section as requested by Zac to make sure this was a good poll:
I just built a new class 5 w/ type IV. Next race is Sept.

Final result. 11 in favor of NEW engine options. 9 against.
The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't.
