It will happen, it's probably not, and should not pass inspection.
Creative YES, awesome YES.
AJ's arms are slightly different than Steve Alexanders. I put AJ's much more legal as they actaully pivot on the same axis as the beam. He did however have to make special link pin and Steve appears to be using normal race stuff. For the record I would not protest either one of these guys if they were racing in my class. They still gotta beat me!

Its not like your asking to allow an engine with way more power. Thought = Is it because once the eco- tec is allowed you will get a few wanting the same approx size engine but built by another manufacture and it puts out more power than the T-4. Then if its allowed the air cooled nostalgia class 5 vw engine will go away. I do understand that because there will always be another engine with the same cc's come out with way more power and where does it end. Hope all is well
Damit B-Dub you always come around and start making sense , Answer : who flippin knows . My only thought was not to limit the eco's to stock just limit the cc's , 5 Unlimited is just that , unlimited 4 banger , I just don't get it some of these guys are just not interested in reviving the class at all . and then we start building new front suspension and other things but thats suposed ok , and if I've got this right the guy that is building this new "not so beam "suspension is one of the guys that is completely against any kind of a motor option . Makes no sense at all !!!

Re: Class 5 only
I think the only reason that I liked the " class 10 legal" engine is because a guy that is racing class 10, but likes the cool factor of class 5 could take everything he owned and put it in a new chassis!~ Or the guy that could be racing 5U could go to class 10 just as easy. Going class 10 legal would also make it one less class that had some vage' rule to follow. Most tech guys already know the class 10 engine rules.
Great post JRV and Dub...

Re: Class 5 only
If the arms are approved then you will see a-arm on my car next year .in class 5 .and sence when does a race org allow a new concept without any input from the people in the class .most race orgs take votes and then make it a 1 or 2 year grace period before the rule is implied.if score is going to let all the gray areas fly then class 5 will die along with class 12 and 1600 5-1600 the beam cars will be no more .

When building my car in 2006, I consulted SCORE (savage) on several things. I had the idea of using a 2" hollow stub at the end of each beam tube and fabricating arms that rotated on these. Asked if I had to use rear fenders and if I could modify panels (fiberglass), Savage said no. Things evolve and nostalgia is for car shows not off road racing.
Point is all classes have evolved or have died. Some things mentioned make sense, some don't. Throwing 80K into car for a class that has few entries and starts way back doesn't make sense. Perhaps ECOtech doesn't make the most sense in a VW class BUT is a viable solution to grow the class. Frosty's idea of a sealed VR6 also has merit and makes alot of sense.
Can you imagine a 110-115" wheelbase class 5??? Bet if you were to measure wheelbase only 1/2 of you would be legal anyway!

Just so you know , my car is absolutely legal wheel base , believe my it's been checked on more than one occation . but I have to disagree on the V6 Those HP numbers are in its stock smog legal condition , after an aftermarket comp and tune plus a good header I am told those numbers will increase quite drasticly

Neither the arms or a ecotec should be protested and NEITHER ARE VW CONCEPT OR DESIGN!!!!!
Didnt BITD 2012 rules state that the "Stock body width must be retained"? sounds like protesting a 5U is pretty easy!
How's that extra 4" making you feel ? Like a porn star or a cheater ? HA , just jerking your chain Steve !

We made sure to sit a couple of fat guys on the front bumper before tech to make sure the arms were rotated as far back as possible
