Well if you have a type four that makes any kind of power , yes at least the heads should come off every race , at least.
Engine was built by FAT and the heads get re-worked by EMW Alot of the parts that Fat uses are made by George, I'll stick with them and hopefully I won't have to worry about it anymore anyway
I agree with Wendell, anyone talking about pulling type 4's apart are going to wrong builders? My engine is Majors and Drews is a Fat and I can tell you that we don't pull them apart but once a year. I we race more miles or as much as anyone. Our engines are pretty big

Nobody is going to spend $30K on a class 5 engine. You realize, you can already do that with a T4 and put out 320HP right? Only one guy has ever ventured into that territory and from what I can tell, it isn't going to happen again.
2.5L Unlimited Internals, Port em, polish em, bump up the compression but put the LIMIT on the RPM's. Limit to 7,500 RPM's -
Putting a limit on compression doesn't make sense. You aren't going to go past say , 14:1 in desert application without having major issues. Going from STOCK 10.25:1 to 14:1 gains you what? I don't know in terms of HP, and certainly head temp issues.
Pump gas only? NO WAY - That just doesn't make sense. Can't make that limit.
I think the average engine will still be around $8,000 - $10,000. But the difference is that they will run all season with nothing more than oil changes and be competitive with TOP OF THE LINE T4's.
Lets try it and see what happens.
The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't.
9 showed, 5 made it past the second lap, only 3 finished.
Again, wonder how many of the 66% NON finishers had engine and/or front trailing arm failures.

Think the term "racing" is a different term for all of us. Is showing up to an event with 1-2 participants really racing? It's like a kids soccer match.....they're all gonna get a trophy. What we are "crying" about here is opening up the rules to make class 5 appealing to racers again. Love the fact that 10 showed to the Mint. Now that's racing!

Funny Wheezy... Maybe they just pushed their cars to hard for what they are.
What do you want; a car that can finish every race? Original arms are tough, engines can run for years...... Consider what you hit, and how you take care of your motor.
Stop already.... I'm glad you don't have a 5/16
Hmmmm lets start putting honda 4 strokes in them..... more cars will turn out....
Yeh, I jumped ship but I bet I'll still race more races in Class 5 this year than most of the guys posting in thread!!!!
This is not an average Joe class so why make it? 5 cars are cool and thats why guys build them! I've softened on the water cooled idea but not on sealed motor for Unlimited class. I like the Suburu engine as an option. Limit cc's and compression ratio to keep cost down and nothing else.
AJ and Steve's arms are ? but I think that they meet rules as I read them. We switched to Latest Concept arms and they have been solid
Hey Jim who is this Latest Concepts company? And where are their arms available? I've seen a few other people mention them as well. What do they do different or better than Foddrill?
Available at Kar Tek - REALLY expensive. I forget the process they use and how it's different, but Bonner swears by them as do a few other guys that have more than a season on them so far with no cracks or breaks.

Haaaa... I knew you'd appreciate that! (or at least I was HOPING you would) - I'm lookin at Subie's - I don't know squat about them at this point but the EJ25 sure is appealing. Lightweight, super low COG, OK power in stock form.
Anybody know how much HP they can make without a turbo? Everything I'm finding has them all trubo'd out.
My goal, 300HP under $10K - nothing but oil changes for a season or TWO. Doable? Need to find a subie expert.
EJ253 makes 173 HP, 166 lbs-ft stock. Metric Motors built one for a friend of mine that's making 215 HP. No turbo, a cam change and some computer work.
