I must step in here Wheezy and defend David Cordosa. David and his brother Dwayne race the 5099 class 5U. They race all of the Texas Races and their last race was the Mint. They also have raced the 2009 Parker 425 and a few others I believe on the West Coast. I hate to say they did NOT finish the Mint due to Engine problems. They are contenders and Dwayne is a heck of a driver. I have also chased David down a couple of times in our 5 car.

Yep we do. We even have fairly decent finish record. How about you?

Wheezy,
I agree with 99% of your statement, but David Cardosa is a solid Texas racer with a great head on his shoulders. He has a SOLID car that is about as good as it gets. He is at every Texas race he can get too, has spent PLENTY of money killing motors, like the rest of us, and has done Parker and Mint! I raced this year with him at Mint and had The outstanding honor of Mr. Bird pull us back to the pits when the motor went south. (and we stole his tow rope)
One of the funny things is that if we dont show up to west coast events we are chumps. We race 4 or more Texas races a year, PLUS SPEND 2THOUSAND DOLLARS just to drive out to a few west coast events and half of the people on here wont drive to our events because its to far, or to hot, or cost to much..... but we are cheap, we actually lead the way

If your looking to up car counts in class 5 unlimited, it's time for you guys to get together and pick a 3-4 race series (think someone has already talked about that). 10 class 5 cars would be a pretty good turnout in this economy...maybe approach HDRA, SNORE or even MORE about bonuses to your class with X amount of entries. I mentioned huge T4 motors were not the answer for a win, seems like you guys agreed since the race course is the equalizer....then i guess the other complaint is not enough entries...... that's where you come in guys, put together 3-4 races (maybe 2-3 if the economy is hurting you too much) the MAJORITY of you guys can agree on and go racing. No rule changes, just good ol' fashioned class 5 unlimited racing.
Something to think about, class 5 isn't the only class hurting right now, they ALL are. Even popular classes like class 12, 5/1600, 9, 10 and even 7s are feeling the squeeze of the economy. Most of us are sitting on our cars and picking and choosing the races we race and making it more a bang for our buck instead of trying to run a full series somewhere. I haven't raced my class 12 since December of last year because i'm TRYING to save up to race the Baja 1000.....so that puts me out of a race car for 13 months. If i can't afford to go racing then I don't race, simple as that.
Great point, if you've been following closely, that is PART of the plan, for sure. Thus my investment in the class5coaliton.com site to not only keep it up and running but to grow it into something more.
This economy, without getting all political is NOT coming back anytime soon (kinda got my finger on the pulse, my family has been in the financial side of land development and home building in Orange County for 30+ years and my wife works as one of the primary asset managers for ALL the major banks [REO's]).
SO, all the more reason to start making some SMALL changes. Power plant's that put out the same HP and Torque but have a different brand stamped on them and cost half as much to run for the season seems like a small change that makes sense to me and a lot of the other guys I've been talking with on the phone over the past few weeks, including race directors of several different race series.
Class counts are down in a lot of classes. Especially the ones with VW engines! Class 10 counts are down? Class 10 is booming dude. Class 1 seems fine and last time I checked, quite a few TT's out there. I'd rather see guys build and come race Class 5 than Class 10. NEW class 10's popping up weekly it seems.
http://www.score-international.com/w...E%20POINTS.htm (78 TT's and C1's / 23 1600's / 19 10's / yet only 4 5U's)
http://moreracing.net/pdfs/2012points.pdf (20 Class 1's / 10 class 10's / 6 class 5U's NONE of which have run all races thus far)
http://bitd.com/points.html (44 TT / 66 Class 1's / 44 class 10's / 12 Class 5U's 2 of which have run all races)
IF you could go race YOUR car in YOUR class for 30% less with virtually EQUAL performance wouldn't that appeal to you? It appeals to me, and it appeals to a lot of the guys that OWN and RACE class 5.

My apologies to David. Never met him. Never seen him at a race. I'm all about the Texas guys and figured he would be on board as it seems the Texas guys are LEADING the way with all of this.

That is your error...BITD (Casey) does their own thing sometimes in reference to rules...you normally don't go wrong following the SCORE rule book...
