Well thats great, with that kind of money you should be able to afford it, and why cry poor there are many guys racing with less income & not complaining about it. (your the one with the screename loddollar)
From now on every poster should declair his income so we can put it into prospective.... & also your age so when you tell us to go F oursefls we will know why you respond like a 16 yr old kid...
Please when picking a class to race, READ THE RULES before hand & dont expect the rules to change just because YOU decided to race

I don't recall saying that the class should change. I'm all for racing in class 3000 if I was to put an ecotec in my car. If that's what it would take for "me " to race more, then that's my choice. Never said anyone should do what I would. Or change anything to meet my needs.

    Re: Class 5 only

Weezy, please, take this as it sounds, if you HATE VW POWERPLANTS, then please, race in a class that allows other ones, but don't try and change the class that is the only OPEN VW CLASS to meet your needs. Race your Baja in 3000 and have fun. Kick butt. Enjoy it. Let us 'old timers' who love VW's and wish to continue to race in this traditional class do so. I am having a hard time understanding why any of the pro-ecotech guys are pushing the argument that they are willing to race with less horsepower because it will be more affordable with the ecotech, but don't seem willing to go out and race a low compression 2332 VW pump gas motor that will do the same thing for them and won't cost anywhere near as much as any hi-compression type 1 or type 4. Some of the attitudes seem to be about getting rid of VW power plants more than making classes where they are welcome. For the record, any 4 cylinder VW water cooled motor is already legal in the class, and there are plenty of those in junkyards to be had for just as cheap as the ecotechs. When these arguments are pulled into the light like this, it becomes clear this may be more about beam chassis'd ecotechs possibly not wanting to run against their A-arm brothers in class 3000 or Class 4 in SCORE than about increasing the car count in Class 5 Unlimited.

    Re: Class 5 only

It sounds like you want me to race 3000 or 10. Which is stupid. Plain and simple.

The chassis are totally different, and thus, it's a stupid idea. Sure they allow beam cars in an a arm class. You can build a beam Class 1, or even a beam TT or a beam 10 car, or just as ridiculous, a beam 3000!!! Nobody needs to point out that yes, there have been beam based 1 cars.

Again, for the tenth time in this thread, I run a well built 2332 from Leonard Perez, I've put more than a few meals on the mans table.

I've tried the "low compression" option, I've tried the super high compression and now run middle of the road. Problem is, they all pop or have some lame race ending problem sooner or later and even the basic rebuilds are a few grand.

Now. Find one time I've ever said, GET RID OF VW. You can't, because I haven't. Instead, I've said, lets make a NEW OPTION for guys like me that would benefit from an affordable, reliable, easy to fix/replace option that doesn't require a specialized engine builder. What is the benefit, I'm going to spend that money on racing more races! It will GROW the class, get more people out there racing, and racing MORE OFTEN.

TRADITIONAL CLASS? Are you serious? There is nothing traditional about 5 unlimited any longer, also stated at least a dozen times in this thread. Monster bypass shocks, no pans, fiberglass bodies and windshields, full class 1 suspension components, 5 speed sequential HD transaxles, custom made power steering systems, 10" gps screens, CAD designed chassis, $30,000 type 4's with fuel injection putting over 220HP to the wheels. Get real with it man. What are you holding on to? Some crazy idealism you have in your head that hasn't existed in ten years. I'm trying to help breathe life back into my favorite class with a new engine option that makes sense in todays world. Take a look at AJ's car... traditional? HARDLY. Bad ass, cutting edge, COST SAVING technology! I admire him for his talent, and his ingenuity.

Again, never have I sad even once anything about getting rid of VW, just opening the class up to MORE options that MORE people find appealing. Take a look at class 10. Also said a dozen times. The engine rules have grown the class. You can still spend $30K on a bad ass HONDA or VW if you want. BUT WHO DOES? NOBODY.

Maybe that's the fear. You all KNOW if "we" open it up to Eco's the T4's WILL go away completely even faster than they will naturally. Why would you spend $14K on a new engine, or $7K on a used engine, and $2K per year to maintain when you can get reliable HP for pennies on the dollar? YOU WOULDN'T, unless you've got more money than brains or are delusional and think fuel injected T4's are traditional.

The 4 cyl, water cooled VW is not as easily available, nowhere near as reliable, and nowhere and I mean NOWHERE near as affordable for stable 180-190HP. ECO's are easy schmeasy!

Of course I don't want to race against a arm cars that have NOTHING else in common other than engine (ok, 3000 are also 105" WB). I want to race other cool class 5 chassis with beams and $3,000 front trailing arms! Even if they have T4's with way more power because thats what I think is cool and enjoy driving. The chassis is what I think is cool, not the engines. KEEP RUNNING YOUR VW, LET ME RUN AN ECO in my 5 unlimited chassis.

    Unless you're scared!

Ohhhh Lo. You can't be "loddollar" and make 6 figures a year. Dude, I'M LOW DOLLAR! I'm embarrassed to admit what I make, but it's nowhere near that.

That's why I get race cars built for FREE! Trade, barter, hustle! That's my motto. I've now done work for three fabricators, two wiring guys and a "parts" hookup. NO CASH! Maybe I should change my screen name to "NOCASH"
