I still believe it should just be a baby step. You know, just get the tip in. Allow the eco and see what happens.

No coincidence at all. Before the 5 car I have now, I raced a Penhall single seater 10 car with a Toyota 4AG motor. The motor made good power but it was at like 8000 RPM. That was hard on the fortin tranny so in addition to running race fuel in the motor, we had to spend more on the trans bearings ect. and the motor wasn't exactly cheap to rebuild. For a while there it was more expensive to run a "competitive" class 10 car than a class 1 car.
Now that the sealed Ecotec is legal in class 10 my interest in the class is Back! We built the 5 car cause they look Bitchin and are fun to drive.
If nothing changes in class 5 to get numbers up,we will most likely make our 5U a pre-runner and build or buy a 10 car and run an Ecotec. Class 10 is blowing up right now. I suspect it will continue

Wheezy, don't fear dilution..... embrace it.
That would bring change on naturally! Just do it......
Get a group of cars together, make a class, get out there and mix it up.... see where it goes by leading the way!
All the organizers would be in. No questions asked accept...... The list of rules and enforcement of them.

Re: Class 5 only
So if the class allows Ecotec motors, can I put a Chevy Cobalt body on our car?
THIS IS A VW CLASS!!!!!
Put a VW water pumper in your car if you don't want VW air cooled - it is legal now, there are reasonably powered options (200 HP stock, and they don't have to be stock) available really cheap for those of you that think racing should be cheap!

Hardly anyone runs the VW body as it is. They are allowed to widen the bodies, and most cars only have some resemblance of the cowl (fiberglass aftermarket) and a fiberglass hood. People complained because the bodies are too heavy, or hard too find or expensive....cry sob cry..... The rules changed, because people embraced it. If people embrace the cobalt body so be it
...will never happen obviously. That's one of the reason people build these cars. Good body lines.
Racing is never 'cheap' but is less expensive with different motor combos. I understand my car with the ecotec is not 5 legal. Therefore I race 10 or 3000 or even 1 depending on the race.
Also I'm not aware of any 200hp 4 cylinder VW water cooled motors stock. Please enlighten me, I hope it's alum block and head motor. I'm not putting an iron block in my car.
As far as a VW class....the only VW on my car is the body shell and transmission case only! Nothing else VW

Why can't we all just get along?

The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't.

I have ONE vw part. The engine block. That's it. Ohh. Not true. I think I have a vw sticker on there somewhere.

I think Ramsey is referring to the VR6 which puts out those numbers in the 32Valve version in 2.8Liters.

You could tweak probably close to 80-100 or more HP!! Don't forget New Cam, new injectors and high pressure fuel pump, Porting, Titanium internals, Higher compression...mods to the Valve timing mechanics...Special shaped/forged pistons and Titanium Valves...on and on...til you have 300+ HP and $20K in the motor...
You could get just 10-20 HP with remapping the computer alone!!
BTW, my distrubuter is a modified VW 009 and maybe a few gaskets...I think that's it!! Really!

So 20K and 300HP sounds like a built to the hilt 3L type 4 like Varshays
If someone wants to build the water pumper up like this fine with me.
