Motor wise we will always use our Type 4 engine. It is the sound and the power that is so cool to us. We send our motor in once a year to wik. Granted we only race 3 races a year and we are not built to the moon. So its a good match for are race pace and pocket book. We would just like to see more cars out there racing. So if a new motor option is needed so be it. Martins will take the $100 dollar bet from Wheezy What ever it takes to get a good race for all class 5 guys out there.

Like your rational Wheezy, BUT:
A) Think there is a fundamental flaw in the plan. Somebody's gonna build a 30k H20 10000 rpm F1 motor and eat every one for lunch. Instead of gaining momentum as planned, Newbe's and Budgeteers will just say F that class, don't make any sense. I believe these are the cars we are trying to gain, not lose. AND,we need to keep the core of the VW guys happy and involved.
B) The other issue you touched base on was racing a series(es). There is SCORE, BITD, SNORE, HDRA, MORE and VORRA that class 5 peeps are racing in. As a group we are too few and too diverse. Perhaps we can spread the love and "create" a Baja Cup series that is 3-4 races in several series (what ever). We can learn from jeepspeed, protruck and Trophy lights. Instead of spinning our (your) wheels on the Coalition we can create a series? Keep in mind not everyone on this forum lives in SoCal so Barstow/Lucerne is not out our back door (MORE).
C)Think we also need to work on gaining more media exposure. When was the last time you saw the class 5 winner get tv exposure or any "mainstream"print exposure?? Doubt you see them in Dirtsports? Might see Kevin Carr a few times in hotVWs (BTW loved the shot of Jim A's car in Hot VW's B1K edition). I suggested to a jeepspeed competitor (jeff Jordan) that they "make" a video. As a group they did this and a few of you probably saw it. The covershot on the forum for a while was 15+ Jeepspeeds lined up. Instead of making a meaningless side bet, perhaps $100 could be spent on making this for the CHiliCookoff. Shall I contact TubaArts?? Bet I could call DIrtSports and have them run an article on us? For the video we could do a few team intro's and hear from everone how awesome Varshay is! (If I show to CC he's giving me a ride in that beast!)
Hey that was a really cool video. That's the most 5 cars I've seen in one spot! It showed the torque of the motors pretty well too, launching out of those deep sandy ruts. I remember when I first got to drive Erik's car with its big Type 4. I told him I wasn't going to drive it slow, I never drive anything slow. So I took it down to a spot at the end of the main pits and launched it as hard as I could. Holy crap! The only other thing I felt launch that hard in my life was a C5 corvette. Combination of all the weight on the rear, big ass baja t/a's, proper gearing, and only 2400lbs made it really feel fast. All I could think about after that experience was "they don't look that fast from the outside!".
I'll be working on my baja bug all day tomorrow. Rebuilding the backhalf, putting in new inner pivots, new rear cage, new engine (another ecotec, mine let go after a thousand miles of racing and 3 years of playing). Got another one dilivered to my door for less than $1200.

this plan is a two year trial , if changes have to be made then they will
Okay guys I've been lurking around here for a few days now and seeing all these people complaining about the VW motors being so expensive what they don't realize they put a high revving water cooled four-cylinder and it the good of you complaining about transmissions we put a five-speed sequential in our car l we were breaking Mendiola's so let them run watercooled motor and know how to spin $20,000 on a transmission so where do you save. This is an expensive sport there's always going to be someone who's can outspend you it's all about finishing not the one with the most money
