Re: Class 5 only
Agree that this thread has taken a negative turn. Putting your "own" agenda on hold, there has been two topics that are making traction.
1) Engine option.
2) Organization.
It's up to us to sort it out.

I have great news! Two associations will be allowing class 5U to make a motor change/ addition for a 3 year period, starting 2013. Both organizations have been following the thread and think that the motor addition will help the class grow in numbers. they are waiting for us as a group to decide on the overall motor package/ rules change. Lets get moving forward and get this done.
Awesome. What are the organizations?
BTW, SteveOwe, we have a JY ford motor (very low miles) up here in CO that we bought when BITD announced the class 12 Ford option. Originally BITD/ BanningMS said that a motor could be sealed then they changed the rule. PM me if you are interested.
For the record. I decided to put T4 on hold till we iron this out. I might convert to Subie 2.5.

I'm looking forward to pushing the 5/16 into the field of 5 cars at the chili cook off.
Hopefully we will get a lot of 5/16's to come out and race.... A total bug fest!
I'm in on bringing my no-recipe great tasting crock o' chile as well.

I have a third that will likely also do it. Same as the other two, waiting on the group to decide what they want to do. That would make four orgs, as VORRA already has those rules in place.

Thanks Jim! They do come with rubber covers on each end too, so should keep the dust out....that are not too expensive and I would hope they are 20 times more reliable than any cable setup...

I missed the survey too...if it came out on the weekend, WE WERE RACING!!
My 5U background (2010/2011 SNORE year end class-5U 2nd overall both years) and future (we will come back to the class likely next year) are both relevant...I think the only change that should be made to the class is for a sealed motor option (preferrably VW) with compatible power and lower cost and high reliablilty compared to a built T-4. NO to the ECOTEC!; despite my belief it may bring a few new 5U guys out, it will not make any long-term inroads to improving car counts.
I do believe a well thought out engine option will improve the car counts.

Sorry to hear Wheezy. Are the docs saying not to race again or are you as hard-headed with your health as this 5U thread?...LOL! ? Again, let's keep this thread civil. Bring back the tone of VW brotherhood. I think the only thing folks have a problem with is the tone of your posts...not necessarily the weight of your arguments. Patience is a virture which is in high demand and low availability in our society now days. Just rethink how you deliver your arguments and don't fly-off-the-handle if you don't get your way on things. You'd get farther with your ideas/agenda if you'd do those two things. At this point, folks are wondering if you're able to carry on a stable conversation...Chill my brother, Chill... Or better yet...chilli cookoff, chilli cookoff!! See Everyone there!!

Steve your MORE than welcome to come out with us. Gonna enter in 5/16 as SNORE points are getting in... Just for the fun of it.
Not sure how many laps yet, or who's available from our regular group on the co-dogging side.
The guys are still getting over missing the Caliente run.
Either way, I hope you'll come BBQ with us California style, and bring some Texas Chile with you.
I'll get you to-from the airport
Let's keep in touch on the thought. PM sent
Benny, hope you'll come hang with us too, as well as all the 5ers... I seem to recall a night out in Barstow.... I couldn't find the Texan clan but heard they did a heck of a party.

Ryan, good to hear from ya bro...have you been racing lately? We are campaigning the new engine option in class-12 at SNORE this year...I have been yearning to do something similar in class-5U...I remember those heated arguments back in that thread late last year...now look at us: Parkhouse Gang just won the Baja 500 with that motor setup...Go "Cheater" and company!!
Jimbo Bird: We should do a combined pit...all VW "unlimited" beam buggies with VW motors (class-12?) and 5U cars...I think Wheezy should bring his car out to drive around the pits too...don't even need to race or have a body on it, damn it!! Let's bring back some spirit to this clan!

Now that we have peace once again; a party "is" in order at the SNORE/MORE KC highlights race.
We can eat, drink and chat about how ridiculously silly it is to even think about changing the motors.

Re: Class 5 only
Wow this got outta control fast. Who cares how many races you've raced or what place you came in, AS LONG AS YOU RACE 5 CARS if you dont then stay out of it and dont bash people for trying. From the begining I was anti water cooled but I have folded. I would be willing to try a 2.5 unlimited water cooled option as a test run for two years. I just picked up my brand new engine after blowing it up at the MORE 500 race, my cars ready to go for the chili race. Which race promotors are willing to change?
