    Re: Class 5 only

I don't mind differing opinions about motors or front setups and stuff like that, as long as it is supported by rational thought...there are a few who just like to jump to "shouting" and insults when others don't see it their way... If there is much of an argument on a subject, then the idea probably is not sound...NOTE! This statement is VERY important here.

I definately don't think another unlimited engine option is a solution to anything in the 5U class. We will just start another money-spending war, just with a new/different powerplant...nothing new. We already have an "unlimited" engine and it's not unrealistic to build one with existing parts. If you cannot afford the knife-edge build under the present rules, build it mildly and for reliably and within your budget.

The "unlimted ECOTEC clan have a defect in their arguments. The engine option "MODEL" used in class-10 and class-12, specifically with the sealed ECOTEC, might work in 5U...but that specific motor (ECOTEC) does not make enough power in stock form! If we can possily agree on a sealed motor with power closer to a built T-4, then that will help the class...otherwise, NO rules change should be enacted...not for 2 years, not for any amount of time. If it is not a sealed or crate engine, then we are only causing more chaos in the class, rather than providing an economical power-plant solution. I just don't understand why this isn't getting through? ECONOMICS, from what I am hearing; this is the underlying energy here for a engine rules option/change. ...50.1% is not a percentage high enough to enact a sweeping rules change in 5U.

...if the rule change idea is sound, maybe 75% (random number BTW), or more, should be in support of it.

I'd love to see the VW VR6 sealed option for 5U...to keep it a VW class, but if that idea doesn't have a HIGH percentage support, then it too is an UNSOUND idea! I am OK with that, but at least I can justify my rationalization for the option, clearly and precisly...without having a cow.

On another subject...Wendell, post that video of your hard hit from December!

Don't worry about it, just "vote" in this thread as others have done. There were 3 polls and they are all pretty much closed now after I posted the results.

    Re: Class 5 only

So from reading through the 40 pages of posts I missed, the guys that are happy with type 4 power are open to this new rule because they know a junkyard motor isn't going to beat a race motor unless the race motor breaks, which the top dogs motors don't go kaboom every race. The guys that are going to put water pumpers in their cars that are relatively stock and that will be great for 2-3premium years till the next high dollar team gets their engine package figured out that makes more hp than a Vw, lasts about the same time as a Vw, and costs twice as much as a Vw starts dominating the class and the 5 people who started building cars in their garage start to realize they don't have the money to run up front and ask for a sealed motor.

Also, why change the rules? Wheezy is still going racing in class 5and even if the rules don't change, frostbite will come back, anderson is drivingfor series e for the new owner of his car, varshay would race if their were more entries, and I don't want to be a d bag but steve0we wouldn't do the whole bitd series even if the rules changed and neither would the guy from vorra ( sorry I forgot your name). So why change the rules

Man been off line and look what's happened!
I and my tire store in Reno put up $500 bonus for Fireworks 500 for 1st air cooled car! I'm telling you guys a 5u could overall this race with A big type 4. Course is tight and technical and this is perfect for you guys! I'm driving TT and think 5 car could beat it !!!

Problem you have is this is "not" a sealed class, so trying to decide what engine is not the issue. Do you want to remain air cooled or not? The guys that want change class race the least and don't own type 4's. My vote is NO on sealed motors, if you can't afford to race unlimited class then don't build unlimited car!! Or pick a few races and go for it!

Other than jrv no one has went crazy on an engine in this class because wheelbase limits the need. So everyone can build a good type 4 and be competitive. I don't have any concerns about his motor and I'm sure AJ, Belk and others with good motor packages would not be afraid to race him any day!

You want a good poll? Ask all the guys that want change how races they have ran in past 3 years and how many could commit to if there was change? My guess they could not race anymore than they do now!!!

Well I think anybody reading this thread knows my vote is for no rules change. I bet my vote wasn't counted in those polls. If a poll means anything, then next poll that comes out I'll get about 10 of my friends to come on and vote for no change, too. Seems like to some people anybody's vote counts anyway, so why not?

    Re: Class 5 only

    Two things....

My economy is booming... Hasnt been better in 5 years. I still dont want to waste 13k on a type 4. Second, how about someone cover my extra week off work and my fuel bill 2 thousand in diesel and I will gladly make every BITD race. I have raced all but 2 events over 3 years in one class or another but then you know me right. Its real easy to race BITD when you live in vegas, and Lucerne is a killer drive from LA right. Show some heart and pony up a 24 hour drive each way and then lets talk. How many races did you do, or are you just a tire kicker?

I bet a 12 car who has his stuff together could pull it off too...

...or for that matter, a 1/2-1600 car with a great driver!! Freakin' Blaine Conrad just got 2nd overall at Caliente against 82 cars!!! ...beat Vic Bruckman in a bad-ass single seat class-12 car ...he's no slouch either! Of course, there were no 5U entries..NOT 1!! Vic's wife, Michelle, used to tear it up in 5U also, but their 5U car has also been sitting lately.

    Re: Class 5 only

Steve0we that is exactly my point... lowering the engine cost isn't going to bring guys like you to more races. You have too far to travel to just go out on a whim and race whatever race out here on the left coast. I would love to go to Texas and plan on doing so for a race in the near future. My car is built to 1980 5 unlimited specs buying would still run it if it wasn't my dd and I was commuting 500 miles to work once a week. And by the way, I have the parts for a type 4, I just need the funds to have it built. That's why im working 120 hours straight this next week.

If you really want something, you will find a way to get it. If you don't want it, you'll find an excuse.

In the past 3 years we have raced 11 races and raced 2 this year so far and 3 more later this year.

    Re: Class 5 only

Several of you have PM'd me asking how I hurt my back. I appreciate the concern. I posted this back in December, but I thought it might lighten this thread up a little, too. You'll see the OOPS right where I blew it. It was worse than it looks but that bump broke the seat and staying in there for several more hours was just stupidity on my part. Anyway here it is...
    Thanks
