The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't.

Ryan, our next race is The SEPT Midnight race in Lucern...I can always use additional pit and mechanic support...if you come out, you can be lead mech...PM for more INTEL.

Re: Class 5 only
I will be racing at the MORE race next month, I would like to enter my 5 car but I will need the rest of the class to excuse the fact that I have a 8 cyl water pumper (its just 2 ecos welded together) a TH400 & a 9"........ Thats ok isint it......after all you need more entries dont you.....
Keep class 5 the way it is, If you need to neuter your Baja Bug then its not a 5 car.
A PRO built type 4 engine is a cost effective investment.
Once you start changing the rules for the complainers they will never stop untill they neture ALL THE 5 CARS, they will always be seeking some kind of rule change to hold the rest of the 5 cars back....
This problem is not exclusive to cl 5, it happens in many classes and many forms of racing, there are always people that will conform to the rules and keep the sport going, but there are some that will want rule changes to accomodate themselfs, then the next thing you know they are no longer around and in the end they did nothing to further the sport.

I agree with you Matt.

I finally spotted someone with a beer and went *phew* OK I think I can have one, let me bust one out. It was nice to be able to enjoy a craft beer again while watching a desert race all day. OH! And the spectating area was right next to the race course instead of 750 feet away - didn't need binoculars! Nobody got out of control drunk and the reason the spectating area was safe was because it was on the *inside* of a corner and 3 feet above the race course on a sort of plateau. I think the new rules for the pits, in the California races at least, is a bit extreme. It's kind of like repeating what society has done for years. Like for example, one kid dies not wearing a helmet on a bicycle and the reaction by society is "OMG, EVERYBODY HAS TO WEAR HELMETS ON BICYCLES PERIOD". Yes I know what happened in Lucerne Valley that day and I have no disrespect for anybody who was affected by that accident.

What is a baja bug: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VW_baja
I remember (as a kid) showing up to a race with a FAT T4 in the back of our class 5 and watch Malcolm Vinje shake his head. Love the T4. Much more robust than a T1. That was 1983 almost 30 years ago. Things change folks. Read the print. MANY people in other classes think Class 5 is a dead horse. There is NOTHING wrong with T4 engine choice. We're not trying to kill it. Problem is class is not growing; Of the last few class 5 racers many are jumping ship for other classes that make more $en$e. Isn't it worth looking into??

This is a long time established class, no matter how hard you try it will never be a 5 car without a VW engine. You eco guys are mixed up, you think you want to race cl 5 but your not willing to put up the money to do so, you want a rule change to accomodate you. Class 5 does not need your ecos to survive & there is no good reason to change the rules because your not willing to spend the money to conform to them. Some of the excuses some of you are making are plain stupid. cl5 hasent realy changed that much in the last 20 years, sure there are always advancements in racing but the concept has basicly remained the same over the years. The thing that has changes is now we have the internet and that allows people to come on here and whine about how the rules should be changed for them. I guess it boils down to if your not willing to invest in a good type 4 then you should pick another class. It makes no difference how many races you enterin the future because eventuly you will be gone from the sport (if you have been around the sport for any amount of time you know this is true) but class 5 will still be around. There are many championship drivers that spent their time racing cl5 that are no longer around & I can tell you none of them ever came up with such stupid ideas to change the class to accomodate them, they built cars that met the rules & they all knew that they were signing up to race a class that cost a lot of money to support. If you want to race a 5 car then you need to man up like all the 5 guys of the past and present have.
Im going to post a pic of my 5 car as soon as I find my chassis builders web site

Thats a great story and a great fairy tail. Remember when you had to have a metal body of the car? remember when it had to have a pan? remember when it had to be stockwidth(oh, that still applies but every ignores that rule).... all of those rules got changed(well except the one everyone ignores now) by existing racers who didnt changed classes, simply changed the class because they couldnt find metal bodies any more, couldnt find convertable window frames any more, thought that the pan was to heavy, etc. So your logic is completely WRONG!
I will like many others, keep my class 5 as a prerunner, or go to water pumper.
And I too, like many others will go to class 10... but thats a step down in classes right?
and for the record, I already own a T4 sitting in the car..... so that logic doesnt work either? Oh, thats right, I cant afford to fix it, but I want to spend double that on a new motor package???? Once again, logic compeltely WRONG!

Ignore the Ford engine rule for 1100/12..it is a BITD deal ONLY...and a bad one...you need to buy a crate motor from Casey's only supplier...cannot get a junk yard motor and get it sealed...again..a bad deal.it ain't super cheap either...
The real new class-12 engine rule surrounds a compression limit (9:1) in a larger displacement motor and only T-1. 2120cc for 2 seater/2020 for single seater; also only single Weber/EMPI 44IDF carb allowed...now you can also run pump gas..it was approved by all sanctioning bodies except BITD...because Casey is hard-headed on his Ford option!...which no one else recogizes...

Totaly respect you as you well know Steve but I think comparing body parts is quite a bit differant that changing the whole power plant. I'm ok racing the ECO guys either way but as a whole I'm a bit sad to see the change evolve as we all know it will. I guess that comes from being an old dude who loves keepng the VW alive. Long live 5U!
