Would you of said a word if I had bought your car???? I don't think so, but... since your hear.... I am so happy to hear your opinions. They are real and good.

Wendell and Ramsey! You guys rock! nothing new, we all know it.

Wheezy, I was running the race when you were injured. My heartfelt sentiment to you. I am so happy that you want to be out on the course again....

What fun it is, what fun there will be with us all getting out on the courses and series whichever they be, having fun. Sr. Steve..... He is doing fun... get it, doing his part to race against himself and anyone who wants to pay to play, but he is getting help with his funds. Don't knock him. That is a dream come true, and his smiles proove it. Steve is living the racing life!

I'm not big on free time or.......... I would try to organize..... truthfully, organization will come with friendships and communication. Getting all concerned and every chance will reflect your truths. My cheers to those here who haven't said a word online but are reading.... They want more out there, but darn it..... let the rule live as they live now until a truthful majority agree on something in the grass roots which created the class to begin with.....

It is my joy as an owner/driver of a couple 5 cars to say this...... I look forward to getting to know my competition, as people, as friends as a group that cares about each other.

There aren't many that can group like the VW's can.... the beamer cars, the 1600's, the 5/16's and 5 opens.... wow the 5 opens.... Yah, woo hoo, the 5 opens..... I hear it when I photo races..... I think, wow, those are awesome!!!!!! Live on...... When I race... I wish I could hear through my earbuds and helmut.... knowing that I am making that noise, hanging on, shutting up and racing against my own ability.... same in the dosil 5/16, but at 50+ I still hang on, shut up, smack the co-dog and keep going... I think we all do that.

Back a page or two.... Those who have the opportunity to be in a car, to help are blessed with great friends. A group of VW people.

NOT ECO, NOT SUBARU.... there will always be options...... Take them, go 3000, go 10 or 12,,, just go...... then when you want,...... come back to 11, 5/16 or 5u whichever suits your budget, or to be with your friends in those classes.

Growth will come and shortages will happen... The classes have watered themselves down... Innovation with new arms is on, legal or not, innovation and growth is good "within the class". Keeping my opinion out for now. That's racing, that's development.

I saw the 5/16 coalition come and go, the 5 coalition come and go.... There are other options that some other group starting their click. Get off it please.... or go.... have fun, I wish the best. I don't know a better place than RDC to communicate with all... and all for all race reasons, and for free. Embrace this. Embrace what the class has been and is.

Blah blah, I hope, really hope as my desert friends remind me that it won't. That the fun of baja south races will work themselves north, with friends making the fun happen, not just the promoters....
Tom, Your a fellow racer , scuba diver and a good dude . We just wont ever agree on the engine deal , thats not terrible , and I think there are 18 or so class 5 RACECAR owners that, in one way or another, think an engine option could help change things .

Another note I don't believe JFK ever had any intension of letting you buy anybody's car but his , shoot I knew that 30 seconds after you got there . doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what his plans were .

I look forward to seeing you out there !!!!

nice to hear from you eric thought maybe you left the country or something lol, congrats on new family btw.anyways to give the low down on criswells car the driver seat was never moved the reason for only one seat was that if you put two seats in you couldent shift the car baja shops made the cab to small ,and before anyone ask why it was made mid engine is because we got tired of smashing all the bottom tubes and breaking the nose cone again anouther design flaw and to finish it off when it was a rear engine car the wheel base was only 103 in lol and the car only had 15in of rear wheel travel ,btw mid engine in a 105 car put some marks in the seat more than a few times didint realy like the car after the motor move .what i liked about the car is that it had big parts and when youn have those you can go real fast .

    1. You dont have a baja bug anymore.

    2. You are complaining about a motor option that will run for 2 short years and thats it. If it flops then nothing has changed and were back to where we were which is right here scratching our heads.

    3. Baja bugs are the most popular offroad car known to man yet they are the least popular choice for a race vehicle. Ithink thats because of the cost to run a well built type 4 hard.

    4. Ironically you want the rule to allow a v6. Only you.

    5. This rule change is not going to change things over night.

    6. If vw v6's were legal would you be racing a 12 car converted 5 open in september?

Ramsey your post of unintended consequences is valid, However the point of a "Hell Mary" or A shot in the dark" should mean something to you on this subject. If the class was doing fine like 12, 16, 10 then why mess with it? Fact is it's not and it hasnt been for years and doing nothing isnt going to miraculously make that change. I appreciate that you post exactly what you feel but if you dont have a soution dont be a hater on an idea.
Pretty much agree with Zac across the board. Other than a few races this year, most are contested with 2 or less vehicles. If we could get all cars to run SCORE or BITD series (or one series for that matter), then there wouldn't be discussinon on h20 engine options.

    Ask yourself this:
    1) Why have class 12/10 made engine option changes?
    2) What classes have gained the most entries recently and why?
    3) What do you think the future off road racing is going? Where do you see class 5 going?
    4) How can we grow the class?

Wow, I go away for a few days and look at all this.

Pretty sure everybody knows where I stand at this point. I applaud the Texas guys for being first. Now we need to get just ONE big west coast organization on board. Anybody out there listening? HDRA? BITD? MORE?

Wheezy, I know you have the best of intentions. Just get on the phone and call Bill Shapley of SNORE and see what he says about trying this for the Midnight race in SEP (W) 702-438-4689. Bill also watches his facebook page closely, that would be another way to reach him directly. Ron Matthews and Jim Clements are the MORE guys to call (sure you know them). Ron's numbers are (C) 760-900-0885 (H) 760-646-9306. If you call Rob Gross (HDRA), he's easy to talk to on this stuff too...(C) 702-303-0491

Let us know what they say.

When I was working the class-12 engine option last year, I got on the phone and called directly to talk to the racing organizations' leadership. Casey Folks, Bill Shapley, Bill Savage, Ron M, Rob Gross.... I also had online communications with Major and FAT. This helped a lot to make it happen. The class-12 thing was largely accepted as a good idea and there was little resisitance among "the troops". It also had major backing from Major, Wiks and FAT...which was very important. Those guys gave credance to the numbers and figures of the compatibility of the option. It is my impression that the whole process in that case took about 2 years to pass at SCORE and SNORE, with everyone else following suit (except BITD).

    Good Luck.

I have a few more things to get squared away on the car, I want to up grade my rack. Other than that the car is ready. Need to look at my avalibility "work" and see what options I have. We are working some big projects currently that I cant step away from. I will see what I can work out!
Also want to see what is going to happen with the engine deal. I need to determine if I will be able to switch or if I want to, if I decide to do Im most likely will wait until I get a new engine, so I can sell my type 4 since its fresh!

    Re: Class 5 only

Has anybody contacted race promoters or technical directors regarding the proposed engine option? Questioning How? are we going to conduct this "two year test" w/o approval first. Considering subaru EJ25 SOHC. Many Subaru shops here in Denver, because everyone out here owns one.
