Not true. Yes Mig welding in the short circuit transfer can do some really bad things like filling in gaps the size of the grand canyon, but theres nothing wrong with it. Its all about Voltage and wire speed. Or if you want to get really fancy get into spray arc then you can knock a hole thru a half inch plate. there is nothing wrong with mig welding and no its not better than TIg welding the two just have their own advantages and disadvantages. Mig=very easy to leave porosity with a slight breeze blowing on you while welding, Tig= lots of tungsten inclusions(Go look at a tig xray tungsten shows up better than lead). Tig however is very easy to control your heat and its very slow so you can take your time but on the other hand slow can be a bad thing. when you really get down to it typical steel tig wire and mig wire is identical in its chemical composition. All you are doing is changing the way it is deposited. stick with 75-25 for mig and stay away from CO2.

I think you read that WAY WRONG. (YIKES, means no good.)
I don't fill gaps.......PERIOD! Just like I don't trigger weld. If it doesnt fit right, it goes in the scrap bin.

Re: MIG "trigger" welding
I've crashed at a pretty high speed and never had a good ole' fashion second pass pedal pump junk weld fail....And I know most the new geisers are pumper nickels as well and they dont break other than the under engineered lower link mnts. But what do I know I'm a shortcourse guy and our stuff doesn't see the vibration and longevity that desert trucks do. My two cents, there are a good deal of ways to tig weld properly and sound and a good welder can feel whats going on between the rod, parent metal, and torch. No one size fits all. Find a better crash reel than my first few seasons and I'll kiss your ass. Whole trucks is root welded as tight as possible and pedal pumped like I'm scared to hold down the throttle....

Same goes for peddle pumpers when tig welding.
Both techniques are for people who don't have skill and have to "draw" the weld bead not let the weld bead form from proper technique.
