What grade billet Aluminium to use??
Hi,
Just wondering what material i should use to machine up a set of rear hubs for my buggy?
6061 T6 or 7075 T6?
Or any other suggestions??
Does anyone in Australia know a good supplier for aluminium?
Thanks Aaron

7075 if you can afford it. Nearly twice as strong but almost twice the price. 6061 is plenty though, I'd say majority of the people out there use 6061. 7075 Is the thug life of aluminum though. 7075 loses its strength in high heat conditions though which is why you won't find engine components made out of it. So either or works, I would go with whatever is easier to get in Australia. Hope this helps!

Re: What grade billet Aluminium to use??
7075 is more susceptible to moving(distortion)while machining. We would rough machine within certain cross sectional parameters, stress relieve, final machine.

Thanks for the help
there isn't many places here that keep any 7075 so looks like i might have to go with the 6061.

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.
