    Re: 6100 Silver State

i had planned on building a new either full tube or partial frame truck, starting this summer to race 7200/7 unlimited since my truck is over built and heavy. But now with the spec motor and trans, i think I am going to build it for this class, heck if I can get the motor by end of year may throw it in my current truck to run next season and then whenever other truck is ready swap it over. Is there any kind of numbers vs the two motors? I am guessing one of the benefit to the ford is the ford contingency in bitd. I guess if you went that route you better off center mount instead of beams.

its going to be intresting to see what engine is more popular for this class. I know the LS is a more reputable option considering its history in the desert but I have heard some good things about the 5.0. Who thinks what engine will be the better option for this class? I know Ford pays but putting contingency aside what engine is better?

    Why would you center mount?..

We are running a Ford in our new truck. I don't think one can say which will be better for this class as we will soon see. All I can say that is trying to stuff this Ford motor in a off road chassis is not an easy deal. The motor is super wide! The LS motor may be the more usuable power plant as it is easier to fit into a traditional chassis design becasue it is much narrower than the Ford.

I hope Ford will place some decent contingency money in there for us that will be running the Ford motors.

are you guys using new crate motors, cause someone told me the ls3 would put much more power down vs the 5.0L i have that is currently in my 1998 v8 explorer. I mean I have been wanting to get a truck with a 4 cyc or v6 because i drive to AZ so much and the v8 sucks gas, if its a good enough motor i could just take my sohc which came out of a 2000 explorer should bolt right up to my 98 limited explorer then take that motor out and get it sealed, but it has like 130k i think. course i would need a th400 since i have been using a c4 which has blown both races now.

i know it said no under drives and such in the trans rule book, they would probably allow solenoids to control shifting of it, you think? Thats what we are planning to do next with the c4 so I can shift for myself

I'm pretty sure the 5.0l you have in your explorer and the motor that they are using for this class are 2 completely different motors.

Completely different, the part # for the Ford engine is on BITD.com. It's the newer generation mustang motor called the coyote, I believe.

yea i figure as much that it was a newer motor, should be a fun class to watch, keep my eyes out during the year for one of these motors.
