What about case deflection with the ring and pinion? I don't want to have to put new gears in it after each season.

Gear deflection is mostly in the spool and ring gear, Hence the load bolt in the case to limit it...........

I was told to stay away from aluminum third members for offroad racing!!!

Quite a few short course trucks run the strange aluminum case, not the OEM style but the larger bearing unit. "ultra case" I think. I can only think of the mileage being the reason they can run it yet not desert trucks.
