    Re: Baja Survival Pack

I've tried the 6 pack rack with extra fuel strapped on, you gotta be careful though, the hook on my tie down rubbed a hole in the gascan and caused it to start leaking. That coulda been ugly. Just be smarter about trying it down than I was.

You can also do the gatorade bottles with fuel in the camelpack and zip tie a bottle behind the front bumper, etc. Best option is to have your chasers meet you along the way with fuel and food.

Being that some sections might be too long... what have you guys done as far as fuel during pre running? Strap a couple of bottles of gas to your bag?

By the sound of things, I'm guessing we got the short end of the stick with this section, lol
The bottles are prone to cactus punctures. we run "MSR" bladders in a camel back style pack. We roll 'em up & stow them away when they are empty.
It's pretty easy to route secondary cables next to the old ones. Spare shifter & levers are a must, even if ya dont need it you may save someone else's day.
Zipties! A few feet of duct tape wraped around a socket can come in handy.

nice tool kit. I also like the fact that you are wrapping the tube with something. Seems like my buddies are always jamming a rubber tube down in the pack only to find it has rubbed a hole after bouncing around in the desert for several months. doh! Seems like we are always using the JB weld (qwik or puddy type) and wrapping them in a container has also saved the compound from bursting. Safety wire, zipties, cash, and Advil are also at the top of my list.

Great info, Trent. Thanks... By the way, we're you able to hear the trucks coming? It doesn't seem like you can even hear a siren on your video...

    Re: Baja Survival Pack

On the high speed sections, like Mike's sky ranch you can not hear them coming unless they give you the siren and for some reason quite a few of them were not using the siren so I had no idea they were there until they were about 24 inches to my left making the pass. You can feel them once they get really close to you but by then it is too late to really do much. I would really prefer the siren. Don't forget once you get passed to stay off the course until you are sure there is nobody else behind them running in the dust.
