Re: UTV's have a great showing at the Silver State 300
Its simple.Put them where they belong in the starting order with how fast they are with the cars. They all pretty much use car tires now. That is what they have evolved into. They are no longer just motorcycle powered side by sides.Put them with the cars.

Re: UTV's have a great showing at the Silver State 300
You want to learn how to drive fast, start in something slow. The original dezert Rhinos were slugs, thats not the case anymore, the new breed of UTV's are only going to get faster.
On a personal note I credit my sons success (in short course) 100% to starting in UTV's, so much so that we still race one at WORCS. They are cheap to get into, expensive as you want to make it, and as versatile as they come, like it or not they're here to stay.
The starting order thing makes sense to me, not for just the UTV's but for all the classes racing, sounds alot safer for all involved as the speeds between the groups before and after are more relative.

People will still complain because they had an issue and a UTV got around and they are fighting for points and dont want dust.

There will be FAR less issues if they start in the line of cars/trucks where they belong.... /thread

Everone has to pass and drive in dust thats part of are sport . if you want to change the starting order talk to casey dont put down other racers . Mark as one of the leaders in are sport that people look up to you should know better then to talk down to other racers . if you dont like it talk to the promoter, utvs are doing what the promoter tells them starting where and when they are told to.
I am not talking down to anyone, nor do I have sour grapes about how I finished (just stating facts). THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, PURE AND SIMPLE. I do not like having other peoples' lives in my hands when solutions are available. This was not the first time I have been in this situation, nor will it be the last.
You guys can talk about how "fast" they are all you want. I am talking simple physics. When, not if, but when a TT or Class 1 collects a UTV the results will be catastophic.
I am not "hating" on anyone here. I realize the promoters put them where they are. From a marketing standpoint UTV's bring a lot of exposure to our sport. So do M/C's and quads. And yes, we all pay entry fees and we all deserve to race. But, we need to do so as safe as possible.
Excepting the top 5%(?), these entries end up tangling with TT's, Class 1's, 10's, etc. That leaves a lot of potential for negative consequences every race. ASK ROGER NORMAN OR THE GUY HE HIT HOW IT FEELS TO HAVE IT GO BAD. I don't want ANYONE to be in that position again.
And to those who say we "Unlimited guys" are full of ourselves; REALLY? We are the ones out there nearly running over people. I have not heard anyone say "Don't let them race at all". I can see how my previous post reads that way, so please do not misconstrue it.
Starting orders have remained largely unchanged since the sport began. Vehicles have changed dramatically since that time and I for one feel this situation needs to be addressed.

sounds like someone is mad that their # got called! (1) 6100 truck ,0 dnf, but still beat by a UTV!
When a man knows how to live dangerously, he is not afraid to die. When he is not afraid to die, he is, strangely, free to live.
With that mentality though, I guess we could also make 2 TT classes for those guys that just can't keep up with the faster TTs. Oh wait.... This is racing. - Dan Vance

Haha comedy. You honestly think if they started side by side (see what I did there??) the UTV would be the 6100 truck, with the rougher terrain, and equal number of vehicles to pass?

Not complaining, just stating facts. It is what it is and we all had to contend with them, so no blood. My point in saying that was to help set the stage for everyone to help emphasise how dangerous it is for these vehicles to be in the middle of a battle for the overall.
I don't hear others complaining either. Again, I hear guys stating facts. If you choose to see it as complaining, then you either don't know they guys making the statements (including myself) or you are making assumptions regarding their intentions, or both.

I don't really care what you think. My job was simple, get the truck to the finish and help Trophylite continue to develop their truck. We had stopped multiple times to make sure everything on the truck was in good shape. It was and we had a great race. Having driven all types of things, this class is going to be fun and will beat the UTV's (as well as many other classes) in the future. I've won plenty of races and been lucky enough to drive some great vehicles, how many have you won or driven since you are trying to call me out?
