Re: UTV's have a great showing at the Silver State 300
i think because they are never out there after the tt and class 1 cars tear it up they do not understand what it is like. those guys need there own races with bikes and quads . i would not want to be in one with a tt coming down on me at 100 plus. even on a graded road!

You dont have the full story on that one. it had nothing to do wit how fast or slow the UTV was going.

Nothing wrong with this thread. Especially bringing up the safety issues. I think your original post insulted some people because of your insinuations that they are faster than most of those classes you listed. Here is a link to the lap times at the Mint 400. A real desert race course, and not a rally course.

The only reason is money.
They are made by the same manufatures as the bikes and quads so sponsers would expect them to be on course the same time as there other machines.
If they were started back in a car class in order of speed as they should be they would not have the following they do now.

Please delete this thread. I was trying to complement some guys on a good run, not trying to insult other people. Obviously, OBVIOUSLY the course is going to be torn up the further back you start. I was trying to give props to some guys and a class that have taken chit for a long time. Delete it please!

I know i understand what you were getting at, and thats why i poked fun at PD. we all know the UTV will not BEAT most of the classes mentioned if both have a clean fair race. What i thought you were getting at with the post was that the UTV's have come a long way. ive ridden in them all, and until the XP came out last year, i would of never bought a golf cart like the previous ones. once the XP came out it was a game changer, and yes, they are much more "race-able", easy to drive, versitile etc, but for what our racing consists of, the utv's will always still be a mid pack runner. i love mine, i would pre-run in it, but will it keep up with my truck in real race conditions? no. will it beat my truck going through trees, bushes, turns, switch backs, tight tight tiiiight washes, and rugged 4wd trails? yes. but what do we race on? the oregon trail or the baja trail?
When a man knows how to live dangerously, he is not afraid to die. When he is not afraid to die, he is, strangely, free to live.
With that mentality though, I guess we could also make 2 TT classes for those guys that just can't keep up with the faster TTs. Oh wait.... This is racing. - Dan Vance

If we were to start in the rear and still beat most of the classes listed would we finally get the respect we deserve?? I think you guys would be suprised how well the the UTVs do in tight sections and kick butt in the rough. Were not talking about the same Rhino you play with on the weekends. We put the same effort into our UTVS as you most of you car and truck guys.
