Re: UTV's have a great showing at the Silver State 300
We should settle this issue on the golf course LOL juuuuust kidding. But seriously, I don't think it's a hard call to make really. UTV's have got to start behind the TT's and Class 1's, maybe even the Sportsman bikes and quads? Like what Pistol said, ramming one at 120mph is going to happen sooner than later, why not make a move to avoid it now? At Vegas to Reno last year on a 100 mph+ section, I came up on one and almost clipped him. Scary stuff. Not sure if he saw me or not prior, but it was difficult to get around safely, luckily I did.

What about Weyhrich's idea of pulling bikes/quads/sxs off the course at a certain checkpoint or pit if they are too far behind? Also someone mentioned starting the unlimiteds one hour later.

Re: UTV's have a great showing at the Silver State 300
Would it be hard to run it two seperate days?? I for one am for it. I am a recreational racer on quads. Last race was the 2010 Baja 500 in the Pro Class. But I do it for fun. I would much rather run the day before with the bikes, atv's and utvs and the next day leave it for the bigger 4-wheel vehicles. I realize the immediate answer is cost, but is it really that much more to put on a 2-day race instead of a one. I personally dont feel like tasting Pete's or Dan Mcmillan or anyone else's bumper. I think a 2-day race is by far safer. Someone is going to get seriously hurt one day. Hopefully steps will be taken to prevent it. Bikes arent going away, neither are the quads neither are the utv's. So how do we remedy the problem in a positive way???

I would just laugh it up when they get called golf carts, kinda like class 1 guys being called buggy dorks and TT drivers called Country Clubers....

I think for me personally, I tend to get a bit defensive for my UTV people for obvious reasons. I am pretty involved from a media standpoint in all forms of off-road as some of my friends here know, so I take a beating quite often on the whole "GOLF CART" thing and have grown thicker skin. But now and then I tend to get rubbed the wrong way from guys who seem to think its fair to put all the UTV guys in the same category with the slower competitors in the class and thats not fair.
21 UTV's started this race and 16 finished. 2 fastest UTV's were separated by about :30 seconds! They finished in 6hrs 30sec. One was clocked at 84mph on GPS. A few UTV's are running 18" of travel on their cars and well over 100hp. They are awesome little machines, they bring a lot of attention to the sport, they also give those wanting to get into the sport a way to do so with ease. Anyone in the Off-Road industry should be in support of UTV's because they bring more new people into the sport than anyother form of off-road right now. They also keep those who can't afford to play with the big boys anymore in the sport. Many playing with UTV's have stepped down from trucks or buggies.
with that said, no one expects you to suger coat anything Pete.. lol You never have.. lol
i, in NO way want to discourage ANYONE from enjoying our sport like i have for 30+ years.....but we ALL must realize the dangers.... we can and should work with the promoters to MINIMIZE the FREQUENCY of unlimited car/TT interaction with the utv/handlebar guys......im sure we as racers (in all the classes) can put a group together to go to casey and sal and make a safer raceplan......seperate days is obvious but will NEVER happen so dont dwell on that.....

Re: UTV's have a great showing at the Silver State 300
SCORE already starts the UTVs in the back so now BITD just needs to follow suit.....and it doesnt have to be in the back just somewhere in the lineup where the speed/weight are close.

Re: UTV's have a great showing at the Silver State 300
So the question is, how do you keep (especially in loop courses) separation between the lead unlimited vehicles and the slower/mechanical displaced entries? I totally agree with Pete that, if your running on the "lead lap" and have no issues, you should not have to be worried about punting a slower vehicle to win. However, if you know that there is going to be "lap traffic", isn't barreling blindly at 100+mph into dust just dangerous for any vehicle, no matter who you might hit?

I reread the FIP and UTVs did not use the MC/Q lines in these areas. I apologize to anyone that was offended by this mistake. (newborn=no sleep=stay off RDC)
