lower link to rearend housing mounting postion thoughts!!
trying to determine how i should mount my links to my rearend housing, the straight up and down way or the straight out way... ive done some research and i heard its all in the geometry and where the roll center point is going to be in the truck and i guess you want it as far forward as you can get it??? also how much anti-squat the truck is going to have... i also heard if the link mounts are straight out then it puts alot of un-wanted force on the heims under acceleration? so you would rather have them pointing down? the disadvantage to having them point down would be ground clearence issues but thats the only thing i can think of that would be bad... but if you look at all the geiser trucks there all pointed down, but if you look at camburgs they are pointing out. i know this isnt a trophy truck lol but i just want whatever is going to work better, and seeing that all the tt's are down then that should be the correct way? its going to be my race truck its either going to be a class 1450 or 6100. if anyone can give me some advice i would appreciate it! thanks

I think you should do some figuring and see what you can get away with. . .
. . .I don't know if the statement about the straight out link mounts putting unwanted force on the heims under acceleration is true or not; I have not heard that mentioned before.
I personally would think that if your chassis and desired geometry can support the added ground clearance of having the mounts out rather than down, that would be better. . .I am sure there are factors I am unaware of in this decision making process though.
I would love to hear what the pro's have to say on this.

I have been told that having the lower links straight out put a lot of force on the upper links, and straight down reduces the amount. And even if they are pointed straight down doesnt your center section still hang lower when talking about ground clearance

The center section will be the lowest as long as there isn't a big rock in the wrong place. . .

When the mount is forward of the axle, bump forces try to rotate the housing up around the hiem, which puts a compressive force in the upper links. The problem is the upper links are under tension when accelerating, so bump forces hammer the upper links constantly between compression and tension. Its no big deal if you can afford to change the heims a lot. Putting the mounts under the axle eliminates upper-link bump forces, but has reduced ground clearance and may result in excessive anti-squat forces. If you are designing from scratch, I suggest putting the mounts under, then lengthen the lower link to get your antisquat down to 50% or less. Otherwise putting the mounts at 45° may be the best compromise.

A very simple way to think about the force is like this.. If a truck is parked and has the links mounted underneath or directly below axle centerline you would be able to remove the upper links and truck wouldn't move. If the links were to the front of the axle and upper links were removed the axle would flip up and forward until the axle housing is directly above the link mounts.

good point craig... so its better to run them straight down? what about at a slight angle forward like a ten degree or so? what do you think about a 45 degree?
