Tourist Cards??
I don't understand why my thread below was closed--unless I missed something my question about the necessity of getting a tourist card and whether anybody ever checks for them was not answered in the cited thread (I know about passports--that was a joke).

Re: Tourist Cards??
Never heard of a tourist card before, I doubt most cops or or soldiers at the checkpoints would even know what you were showing them.

Re: Tourist Cards??
Not 100% sure but I think it is now a law that you have to have a passport in order to get in and out of the country. Even if it is just to cross the border for the day. I think the law was passed sometime last year year.
I think what you might be talking about is a Temporary Visa. Had to get them years ago if you where to travel more than 100 mile below the border.

Re: Tourist Cards??
Hey rustyb,
You are supposed to get a tourist card if you plan on staying more than 72 hours in Mexico or traveling south of designated "tourist zones". In Baja it is defined as as south of Maneadero (just south of Ensenada) or south of San Felipe. For the most part, it really isn't enforced in Baja Norte, but there is a checkpoint at Guerrero Negro when you enter into Baja Sur. I have been asked for my tourist card there a couple times. You can get them for about $20 at the immigration office right when you cross the border.

Tourist cards are required in baja if you go below Guerrero Negro into Baja Sur (south).
Rarely checked and many don't bother getting them.

Re: Tourist Cards??
look for this one to get clipped too ---- or move it to the 'Whatever' section - maybe you should have a title like ... Baja-500 Tourist Card Question or something like that .. and personally never heard of a tourist card, but would love them to be mandatory down here at the So Cal Beaches during the Summer months
not just a "spectator" .....

Exactly, I was asked for mine for the first time at the NORRA race. I played dumb and it wasn't a big deal and I still never have got one.

Re: Tourist Cards??
We've had them give us the cards at GN and had to take it to a bank to pay and get it stamped. In 2010 we asked the immigration office in Mexicali for them as we were going to La Paz, we got them all filled out and when we had time in La Paz we went to the bank and paid the fee. Never got asked for them. But I heard that if you have and incident (vehicle or body) that you could be denied for not having the tourist cards. When you fly in you do all of this on the plane before you land, you never know you do.
