Re: Pro Buggy Shootout- June 9 Lake Elsinore Regional Race
I'm a photographer who was at the race this past June 9th and have a photo blog with images from this race.
I also have a page dedicated to the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series and have temporarily uploaded the pictures to my Flickr site until I can setup my galleries. I took close to 4000 pictures and haven't posted all of them, so if you think I might have one of you, contact me.
If you're interested in purchasing images, please contact me directly at [email protected]. I'm also available for assignment and contract work.
Re: Pro Buggy Shootout- June 9 Lake Elsinore Regional Race
I guess I’m getting old lol -- Darn thing is taking way too much time to finish? here are some progress pictures .
Scaling the car this week springs and valveing -- hopefully testing this Sunday.
At least my car has down force Michelle Heckler-- your car has zero down force. In fact your car and every car in this class ONLY have lift. Name one car that has even 10 pounds of down force? Can anyone? It sounds like my girlfriend (Michelle Heckler last born fool to run an air cooled and copy a old funco A-arm car) is jealous he didn’t think of it?
No dis respect to my fellow air cooled guys but a fuel injected 2.4L Ecotec is the way to go..
Its called reliability and pump gas. = fun.
And if anyone says lift is a good thing? Also thinks the tires don’t need traction to go fast.
Bullet style cars go great in a straight line that’s why they work so well in the desert. But this is not the desert its 3-4 lefts and one right? Did I mention this class has had the same design for over 30 years? We all have had a motor and transmission war all this time.
Lets just put the question out there how fast would a (WOO) --world of outlaws car be without the wing?
So how much slower is a NON winged sprint car? Than its brother the WOO? You all do the math.
did I mention I have the option of taking some wing out to balance the car as well ---- heehaw mo foe’s -----
Ya its just all talk till it works then like every good old blue shirt boys- you all be dropping your Cooley’s and Racers like you all did the Chenoweth Magnum and building something that will keep up with this.
Re: Pro Buggy Shootout- June 9 Lake Elsinore Regional Race
What happens with all your "down force" when your going off the jumps??? I can see it working on the flat track roundy round cars, but on a track were your in the air more then on the ground....it doesn't make sense to me.
Re: Pro Buggy Shootout- June 9 Lake Elsinore Regional Race
Now for the record this is the fastest short course car – ever built. Still to this day----!!!!!!!
Built by Chenoweth and driven by Roger Mears this monster has a mid mounted 383 V-8 Chevy alum block Donavan making some 700hp – it only has one gear and will do over 160 MPH. Pin the gas at 80mph and it will try and flip backwards. It has a torque converter to a winters quick change RR—5 link rear suspension--- beam front end and the radiator sits between your feet .
This bad Mo Fo was banned from Ascot racing with the sprint cars, why you ask? Lapping the entire field to many times and making them look stupid too many times. They all thought an off road car? Ya bring it. well Everyone ate CROW for dinner till they puked.
Roger Mears Lapped the field at riverside in 2 or 3 laps and that 2nd place was walker in his class 8 truck.
Don Adams had the car for awhile and raced Pikes Peak with it in the unlimited class and finished 3 with nothing done to the car but bolting a dominator carb to it -- but heck he was up against aluminum tubing Coyote chassis with V-8s on methanol.
I had the privilege to drive this monster a few times and it is the only race car I can honestly say made my knees shake when I got out of it.
I drove it with the wing and with out with the wing --- never ever tried ever again without the wing.
So you all may think I’m out there-= all nutty and crazy (like a fox)but let me say there is a lot to this down force deal than you can even imagine.

I bet no one thinks a Pro-buggy will ever be faster than the trucks.
Time will tell. But I think its going to happen.

You’re in the air because you have made a wing under the car and you have nothing but lift----
What do you expect?
Take your lift and reverse it and the car will stay on the ground. it doesn’t get much simpler than that now does it?
If big air were the way to go ?
why don’t the moto-cross guys do it? Heck no they do everything to get the bike back to the ground
Simple if your tires are not on the ground your not gaining speed your flying--
Personally---- I hope everyone gets flying lesions.
I have had the opportunity to have driven cars with wings and they work.
The problem has been
Go spend $800 on a wing take the time to mount it and then throw out the setup you had and put the wing setup in the car. ------- all is looking great!!! Till you flip the car.
Now go put the original set up back in the car or it won’t turn--- or have a trailer full of wings –
Now our rules say you can’t have wings hanging all over the car ----- so now what do you do?
Go build a new car ----- sorry ---- but now you know how some of us felt when you needed $50 grand for a Honda and a transmission to be in the top five--- Now comes the Chevy ECOTEC problem solved and allows a normal racer like myself to be back in the hunt.
Most of the guys in this class have only been in it for 4-5 years and don’t know what was tried and what worked and what didn’t--- 30 years in this class has its advantage right now.
I think the body roll the A arm cars have is crazy – big sway bars jacking the car around to do what the beam car does natural –
And you still don’t have one pound of down force with your bullet dezert style cars
How are you going feel when this car is all wheel drive?
Re: Pro Buggy Shootout- June 9 Lake Elsinore Regional Race
Good luck with ur super dune buggy, i know I dont have a horse in the race but I'm really not sure ur theory is going to work on the tracks out west, but good luck non the less.
Oh, by the way, but would rather u find out now than at tech, bump stops are not legal, need to remove urs before Gary drops the hammer on u, hope that doesn't effect ur set up to much.
Re: Pro Buggy Shootout- June 9 Lake Elsinore Regional Race
THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP…
What’s the reason behind that? I wander if that is just for the single buggies?
NOW I see no remote mounted shocks. Well mine are the stops so I can just let the air out of them and be ok. Or put some springs in them and run them dry. Anything helps
Man I read the rule 20 times and never caught that? this class has always been unlimited suspension. I can see stopping magnetic or live suspension but what’s the problem with bump shocks?
Who do you know in this class that had to remove them?
