    Re: What is Rallycross?

....which makes sense, and doesn't at the same time. It seems with the nature of rallycross (at least here in the US), like short course off road, bodies get banged up QUICKLY. the problem is, it costs a LOT more money to put a new body on a rally car than it does to bolt on a new set of fiberglass for a tube chassis truck. Short course off road seems to already have the market and the sustainability. I'm not too sure about rallycross here in the US.

    Re: What is Rallycross?

You have to look at it a different way...rallycross and Euro Rallycross is different. A rallycross which can be sanction under SCCA is a car without a roll cage and you go seperately in competition at a slower speed through chicanes.

Euro Rallycross is staggered and only 6 cars in each heat. So you are not going to see alot of banging because of the course and how it is set-up.

    Euro-rallycross under Rally America is:
    Main Events:
    a. The sum of the driver’s two best (numerically lowest) scores from
the heat races will determine their placing in the main events.
    b. The 20 drivers with the lowest scores in each class will advance
to the main events, where finishing position within a race will
determine the results. When drivers have the same score, ties
are broken in favor of the competitor with the faster time in the
heat race not included in the point total, If a tie still exists
(example; both drivers DNF in the heat race not counted) then
the tie will be broken in favor of the driver with the faster
    qualifying time.
    c. There will normally be 6 drivers in each main event, lined up in a
staggered 2-2-2 formation. The highest ranked driver chooses
his starting position 1st, and then the 2nd fastest chooses, etc.
    d. Drivers ranked 1-5 after the heats will race in the A main, drivers
ranked 6-10 race in the B main, 11-14 race in the C main, and
15-20 race in the D main.
    e. The top 2 finishers of the D main will advance to the C main, the
winner of the C main advances to the B main, the winner of the B
main advances to the A main.
    f. At the discretion of the Race Director, any driver causing a Red
Flag in the A Main may be restarted from the Penalty Box. The
driver causing the Red Flag will be eligible for trophies and
podium celebration, but credited with championship points and
other prizes behind all other starters in the A Main.
    g. Rally America may exercise a “Promoter’s Option” and place any
entered driver in the A Main. The driver receiving the Promoter’s
Option will normally become the 7th
    starter and start from the
Penalty Box. This driver will be eligible for trophies and podium
celebration but will only be credited with championship points
and other prizes earned as of the conclusion of the B Main.
    7.3. TIMING
    A. The Race Director has the right to correct any obvious and substantiated
    timing errors.
    B. All official time assessments may be made according to the
    supplemental regulations.
    C. “AMB TRANX 260” type transponders will be used.
    1. It is the driver’s responsibility to procure a functioning transponder.
    2. It is the driver’s responsibility to provide the Chief of Timing and
Scoring with the transponder identification number.

    Re: What is Rallycross?

The GRC does it a bit differently then Rally America does it...and you do not have to pay so much to have a rally car doing it at RA then GRC and lot less expensive on the entry fees as well. A lot cheaper at the RA level.

I'm curious what the differences between RA and GRC are? I'm actually going to the GRC this weekend, but it won't be any dirt so is not exactly the same IMHO.

The Rally America Rallycross is at the New Jersey Motorsport Park for the whole series so that the teams can hold their cars for storage in New Jersey;since some of the teams are coming from all over USA. Also Rally America series was the FIRST to start bringing Euro RallyCross over to the USA quite a few years back and GRC/ESPN splinter off of that rallycross to its own series. Rally America is more grassroots and WILL build on that series for other teams to get in on the action where as GRC is great to watch but a private team with very little backing will NOT be able to enter maybe one event due to the entry fees are higher.

This past weekend when the first rallycross of the season was held at NJMP. There were two North Carolina teams there competing. Kudos for them!

As quoted from Rally America site:
"Premier grassroots rallycross returns to New Jersey Motorsports Park with at least four events on a mixed tarmac and gravel Lightning Road Course located in Millville, NJ. After introducing rallycross at ESPN's Summer X Games 16 at the Los Angeles Coliseum, Rally America brought European-style rallycross to NJMP in 2010 and will now feature even more amazing rallycross action on the same track that made the sport popular.

The U.S. Rallycross Series will consist of 4WD and 2WD classes that will feature the best wheel-to-wheel rallycross racing at the grassroots level in the country. See some of the top local talent and a few nationally-known drivers like X Games athletes, Art Gruszka and Dillon Van Way. Plus Belgian Rally Champion - David Sterckx."

It is basically lame. A bad attempt to "NASCAR" Rally racing and bring it to the masses. They need to keep at least 50% dirt and have more than 2 turns.

Don't know why you're hating on it so much, but I enjoyed yesterdays race in NH a lot. Exciting racing on more than 2 turns. They finally added a dirt section, and that hairpin ramp over the wall was really cool. Best course of the GRC so far in my opinion.

    Re: What is Rallycross?

I think why they put in a dirt section is because rally competitors and the true Euro Rallycross is done that way...Rally America has a rallycross coming up this weekend at the New Jersey Motorsport Park. check this out on www.rally-america.com. They are gaining in entrees and up to 21...!!! It is cheaper then GRC and possible working on a East and West Coast series. I am working on finding venues for them...because GRC is good but it still has some quirks to be taken care. But at least RA is keeping it so that a grassroots team can get in on the action and not overspend...
