    Battery recommendations fora 16 car

I picked up a 2 seat 16 car recently and the batteries are shot. They are Die Hard batteries. I was wondering what would be the best replacements for them. I have ran optima batteries before but they don't seem to last. I was looking at the optima, odyssey and lifeline batteries. I believe we want to stay away from wet type batteries, and go with sealed gel type. Any help would be appreciated.

Quality of Optima seems to have gone downhill in recent years. Many believe it's because they are now made in MX, but it could be poor quality control, or a move to cheaper materials to save costs, or some other reason.

Odyssey are good, but a little on the expensive side. I've also heard reports that the DieHard Platinums are basically the same thing as an Odyssey (only the top of the line Platinums, not the Golds or any of the lesser models), just rebranded for Sears, and generally cheaper in equivalent sizes. I have 2 DieHard Platinums in my diesel truck and have not had any issues so far, though admittedly they are currently only 6 months old. I've had an Odyssey in my Evo for several years, and no issues so far with that either. So if there is a DieHard Platinum in the right size you need, that is what I would go for. If not, then an Odyssey.

I've never heard of Lifeline batteries.

I agree my last couple of optima batteries I have not been happy with. Especially if I am going to pay 400 + for two batteries I would like them to last a couple of years.

Optima or any full size battery is way too heavy for a 1600, two of them is nuts.

I use an Odyssey in my 2/1600...haven't had any issues with it. Nice lil battery.

Put a couple of Shorai motorcycle batteries in and take 40 lbs out of the car.

That picture above is a 20L sized motorcycle battery in a 1600 car I wired. It weighs about 22lbs if I remember correctly.

Lifeline's smallest battery is U1 sized, commonaly used in lawn and garden tractors (I have seen many of those in Class 11 cars).

What mounts do you have now? Are you willing to make new mounts?

I have two wet type die hard batteries in it now. I can make a box for whatever because it will have to be changed either way. I am not worried about weight to a degree, I am unsure if I would want to run these little tiny motorcycle batteries. I like the idea of a regular battery in case I lose the alternator I can go aways on battery power. I would guess the motorcycle ones would not last long.

Those small motorcycle batteries are rated at 500 CCA each.

You may want to look into Odyssey stuff. Maybe two PC925 or a single PC1700 or PC1500 since you want a large battery.

I would run a very small battery to save weight myself, or look into new Lithium offerings that cut weight without loss of cranking power and reserve.
