For your information, everyone in the HDRA organization has a long background in motor racing. Just a small group with a combined total of over 240 years of racing experience...

If you would like to find out more about the Fireworks 500, go to www.hdrarace.com for details.

For real? Both of you really read his post and thought he was being serious and not sarcastic? Come on. Read it again. He is on the side of HDRA

Re: so which Reno 500 you gonna run?

Indefab... your concern about having two 500 mile races in the same region on back-to-back weekends is a valid one. I, for one, think VORRA and HDRA should be co-promoting one single race, though I have little doubt that it's very difficult for two race organizations to co=promote an event. HDRA is using private land owned by a principal of HDRA - only makes sense to race here. The HDRA course has been raced on... (by VORRA) and it is a great course that is hardly "groomed like a ski run". Where did you come up with that crap?

If you can race one race... pick HDRA.... no matter how "epic" the VORRA course might be, the HDRA course is "epic-er". For the record, I am not anti-VORRA.... I have only respect for VORRA.

Mr indefab is being a little protective of the underdog orginazation that has welcomed him as well as me and many others. I think the right answer to his question of wich to run should be BOTH. The people at VORRA,racers and staff would jump through hoops to help anyone that wanted to stay and reprep to race again. You have already made the drive so why not see what you can do.
I have raced both courses and would compare each to sections of Baja. The HDRA race will be a bit more mountain / rock racer (Loreto ish ?).
The VORRA race will be more mixed up with some fast rollers, mountain switchbacks, and rougher areas. Of course things will probably be changed a bit from the last 2 years.
If we can pull off the NORRA(1100m),DOS MARES(300m),and Baja 500 in a month from Nor Cal a few of you should be able to make both of these.

Simple , race whatever race has the most entries in your class along with class bonus, its all about payback vs cost in our sport in this economy unless you have disposable income.

Re: so which Reno 500 you gonna run?

The HDRA race looks like it is shaping up to be a great race with good spectator areas, and big payback. The race course is not really a typical desert racing area, but when I ran the Outlaw 250 on the same land, I really liked it except for the bottle neck areas. Twisty windy, through trees with lots of rocks off line. Challenging and beautiful. Kind of like Silver State 300 and smooth roads going up to Mikes Sky Ranch combined.

The VORRA 500 is long laps, rumor is 250 mile laps last I heard. There is a good mixture of lots of fast roads, silt, slow and medium speed twisty roads and washes. It will be more open desert, more like a Vegas to Reno course. Entry fees for VORRA are a bit cheaper, but both races are affordable.

Neither race course is really really rough like a San Felipe or a Primm. They are both very close to Reno and lots of hotels. A good prep should do for going to both races with small repairs and fluid changes in between. Just think Baja 1000 with a break in between.

I am going to try to defend my overall victory at the USA 500, so Vorra it is for me, but the HDRA race is taking shape nicely. If anybody needs to store a trailer or race car between the two races (within reason), I may be able to help out if it gets you to both starting lines. We have a big off road shop in Sparks that if anybody needs help with prep in between the two races, or before either race, we can help.

Two epic American desert races back to back could turn out to be a great thing if we support both series, this could be an American 1000 for a lot of racers. The combined entry fees would be less than half of a single Baja 1K entry fee, with Lake Tahoe 20 minutes away for the family. The tempatures up here are perfect that time of year, probably a high of 95 degrees.
