Re: 2008 ford f250 diesel mpg??
Ron, since you are a bleed blue ovals, diehard Ford guy, I would strongly suggest looking at one of the new 6.7L power stroke super duty trucks. I am hearing very good things about them. The truck itself is very similar to your 08 but they have made major improvements in the engine with better MPGs and more power!!! Definitely worth looking into if you don't want to go with a Dodge or GM truck. After your problems you might even be able to get Ford to work you a sweet deal to not go over to another brand!!! Worth a try anyhow.

DPF deletes are illegal and could cause you big problems especially in CA!!! But you can use a tuner on the truck. Check out H&S, SCT, Banks, Edge and so on...
I really worry about the longevity of these engines with the "overfuel" method of regeneration. It can cause fuel dilution in the oil and will no doubt shorten the engine life. The new GM LML trucks use a separate fuel injector for the DPF that will not wash out the oil. A much better design if you ask me.
If you change the oil regularly, I don't believe oil dilution will be an issue. It is important to check your oil between changes. If the level is increasing then the engine is blowing by and the rings can be washed out. A buddy of mine works on all of the Ford diesels. He has customers that do oil changes every 10 k on the 6.4.The oil level will be 4-6 quarts over full. These particular vehicles are bus style limo's. They are predominantly idling and in stop and go traffic. The DPF never has a chance to finish the regen, so they are constantly running under regen. Other than the rings washing out, the rocker arms will go away among other things.
It won't fail because of me!

Good idea only problem is the ford dealer don't want your trade either so you WILL take it in the shorts all of my trucks after 2004 have been dodges and yes the biggest thing they have done in the last 20 years was loose the split rims the trucks are a little rough around the edges but at least i dont know the service managers number on speed dial and another thing you guys that tow especially in the heat get rid of that damn automatic trans not one of them are worth a damn

Re: 2008 ford f250 diesel mpg??
dodge 2500 4x4 crew and shortbed, BFG 35" and auto trans. average mpg is 19.1, corrected with o/d tire diameter od 16%. 30' weekend warrior with Polaris ranger and tanks full. 14mpg to 11 mpg. chipped and trany tune, pulls good at 62-65 in Overdrive. On interstate 80.
A place on east coast is buying any Ford truck/ excursion and installing new Dodge 5.9 engines with Allison 6 speed auto.
Or have them convert yours.

Sometimes with problem children like this the manufacturers will work with the dealer to try to retain the customer. I have heard of this happening in the past... on the auto trans... most manufacturers are getting rid of them altogether. GM did a while ago and I think Ford followed suit recently. Im pretty sure you can still get a dodge with a manual trans.

Lots of shops and people are doing conversions. I have seen new 6.4L Fords yanked in favor if 5.9 or 6.7L Cummins engines!!! Check out destroked.com n beansdieselperformance.com for more on swaps!

A 6.4 with a spartan dpf delete setup is an entirely different truck...22 mpg highway is not out of the question. And there is no reason to buy a manuel with how good the automatics are now days.
