"Thanks everyone for all the support. Got a lot of nice texts and phone calls along with a ton of Facebook messages. Can't thank everyone enough. Still in a lot of pain but I'm slowly regaining feeling in my feet. Gonna take some time but I should be able to make a full recovery. Gotta say thanks to my parents, my girl friend Allison and my sister ashley for being here for me Along with Jeff, Tyler and Erik. We'll try and keep everyone posted."

Matt is such a great guy and loved by many. Here are a few of his fb post from yesterday.

Matt Gerald: Not into much pain today. They took my chest tube and epadural block out so I'm feeling 10 times better should be able to get a good nights sleep tonight.

About leaving South Bend:Next week some time could have tomorrow but the place in Milwaukee wouldn't have any rooms till next week.

Matt Gerald: Yup very lucky to have such good friends and family to help out with every thing. I'm so blessed

Good to hear the Matt Gerald is ok. I don't personally know him but it does suck to hear about any Short Course / Off Road driver getting hurt. Hope you have a Speedy Recovery Matt

hey everyone i just wanted to give an update on how my first day was yesterday. RIC is such an awesome facility. I have two sessions a day of PT and one session of OT. The PT is tough. I am proud to say though with my first session of PT they had me standing with help of the parallel bars of coarse! The afternoon session they had me doing more standing. Then i played a mean game of soccer while sitting on bed trying to get my movement and control back. My mom and my doctors where very impressed with my progress. I know a lot of friends have tried calling and i apologize if i can't answer they just have me doing so much and when i'm done I'm completely wore out. Thanks again for all the support I wish you all knew how much it means to me. Also big thanks to Matt Solka a fellow competitor of mine in Light buggy, his knowledge of this type of injury and being able to ask questions is such a nice feeling. I'm hoping to be back on my feet in no time!

Super pumped, I walked 32 feet this morning on my first attempt with a walker! Next attempt was 19' then my third was 25' man that felt so good but took so much out of me!

So happy! I broke my therapists goal today and walked 63' my second attempt was 55'. I've won a lot of races in my career but this tops all of them.

Hey just wanted to let everyone know how i'm doing... Therapy is going really well. My therapist goal last week was for me to walk 50 feet. I crushed her goal and walked 91' twice! I was super pumped. I'm getting around really well and working really hard getting stronger and stronger every day. My quad's lost a lot of strength while i was in the hospital. I'm taking on as much extra therapy as I can. They are looking for me to get out of here August 1st. On another note my dad and my team are at my shop getting the #395 ready for Mike Vanden Heuvel to take it to the class. Come on Fitz bring that rig back to the mid west lets see what you got! lol Since I can't drive right now i think i found an ok back up driver.... Can't wait to see how our car stacks up against Steiny, Seefeldt, Villemure, and Erickson. — with John Fitzgerald.
