Marcus Gronholm takes first at Global Rallycross season opener at Charlotte

Banging doors and belching fire Global Rallycross is a hit with NASCAR audience. Marcus Gronholm comes away with 1st, Tanner Foust 2nd and Stephan Verdier 3rd at the first GRC to be held in conjunction with a NASCAR weekend.



As the cars lined up and launched from the start line to get Heat 1 started I heard something I’ve never heard at a rally event before. I didn’t even know what it was at first. ‘Clack’, Clack Clack Clack, then one big CLACK! As fans stood up their seats springing closed made an incredible noise. This was the best thing I heard all weekend, the sound of real FANS, really excited to see every turn they could of the rallycross cars ripping around the track. They got themselves to Charlotte to see some racing and were often on their feet as the cars slid around and banged through 6 gears down the straights, tore through barriers and crossed the jump.
