Alternate lines for the 500
There sure a lot of interesting alternate courses in the 500, the trackes shows the alternate course that each vehicle took during the race. Does score look at the trackers to see what course the cars took ?? how far off the course can you go ??

Cars on on the course. the line on the screen depicting the course is not on the course, LOL. just a straight line from selected gps points.

so its just update points ? not alternate courses ?

Re: Alternate lines for the 500
That was my mistake.. now I understand that if the tracker updates late it will draw a straight line between the update points

"Alternate" sections of course, are noted in the GPS files provided by SCORE and usually denoted with an "either or" waypoint.
ALL GPS's, will draw a straight line between GPS points. Same with the tracking devices on each vehicle. However, those tracking devices are set to a specific parameter (in the past, they were set to drop a point or "breadcrumb" every 6 seconds) that usually make the straight lines look more fluid (and not so straight). The more points in a track, the more of a fluid line you'll get.
Yes, SCORE looks at the tracks each vehicle makes via the "recorder" or tracking device provided by IRC. Each and every vehicle's track log is scrutinized by SCORE to verify the racer stayed on course and didn't deviate. As well, to check for VCP violations that keep the racer on the designated course.
The rule book states how far off course your allowed to deviate. As well, Sal usually addresses this in the drivers meeting when there's locations that are more lenient or places they'll be strictly enforced. Think.... Sandwashes and Farm Roads.
... hope that helps.

Should be interesting to see if SCORE checks trackers this time. There will be a lot of penalties if they do because there were multiple top finishers taking "alternate lines" that had wrong way markers on them!

Re: Alternate lines for the 500
Just because there's a wrong way marker doesn't mean you can't use that line. The way Sal tells it, "hit all VCP's, everything else is wide open." There's a line through the silt beds after Saldana RM 160 that had a wrong way arrow in it, but I know all lines through there were open.
I know which one you're talking about, I didn't take it. But if I had to get around someone I would have.

Just like Andy said. Just becuase there is a wrong way marker does not mean you are not allowed to go that way. If you are racing take the time and read the course notes, they do have meaning. They clearly stated "multiple legal lines" from cahabuzo all the way to borrego. I have had many conversations with Paul about these types of things, hit the VCP's and you are good to go. SCORE does check trackers. Pre run pre run pre run that is what Mexico is all about. Lines specified by SCORE on your GPS as "alternate lines" absolutely are not the only alternate lines. This is not BITD where you have to stay in the exact groove. If you do not do your homework and find the LEGAL creative lines, you will not win a competetive class. It's not like only one person takes the creative lines and wins, everyone that does their homework right finds these lines....

Re: Alternate lines for the 500
Best idea is to ALWAYS follow the GPS course, and adhere to VCPs.
... most importantly, hit the VCPs... ALL of them!
Mile markers, stakes, wrong way markers, ribbon, etc.etc. get moved all day long by locals. Follow those, and your bound to be led the wrong way or worse... into a trap!
All pre-runners should have a GPS to use.
No pre-running... just equals chaos and disaster come race day.
