I believe that the reason class 10 took off was because a majority of the people that are now in the class like the idea that they can be competitive in a class because everyone is now on the same (motor) playing field. The guys with the deep pockets can run class 1 with 20,000 dollar motors. As soon as you open class 10 to all stock 2.4's the guys with the deep pockets will be buying the latest and greatest motor every year to have the edge. This will not make me, nor the majority of class 10 guys want to stay in class 10. Who wants to race against guys that are up 20 percent on power?

I race Class 10 with a 2.2 and a frickin' beam. I have never been on a "level playing field". That is my choice. If class 12 had what I consider to be a low cost motor option I would race there instead. I am currently considering the Ford option so I can race Class 11 in BITD and Class 10 everywhere else. Point is, I if it were not for teh ECotec I would not be racing Class 10. It is a great motor at a great price but it is not the only answer to this or any other class. I think toom any people are putting all their eggs in the Eco basket when we shuld be looking at more options.

But they do! Just like class 1 and TT. put a stock motor in your 12,11,1600,1,or TT Etc and go race. But then you will not be competitive. You open class 10 up to many options, the price of having a competitive motor goes up quickly. This is why class 10 is growing so quickly. A strong robust car, and a cheep motor that makes it a driver's class.

I think the new Super 8 is going to get big quick just like class 10. I for one know that when I raced Pro Truck with a team a few years back, we would have stayed in that class if it was a spec motor class.

At least you have different motor options in Super 8 though!

I am open to more motor options for Class 10 under two conditions: 1. The HP and Torque numbers are no more than 3% higher than the stock ecotec. 2. You figure out a way to ensure that all the new types of motors that come into the class can be legitamately tagged and policed.
Anything less than this will wreck the class (see Jangaard post above)

According to BDub, people are already cheating with the Ecotec. As for #1, it sucks that the worse 2.4 motor, power wise, was picked as the "standard" for this class.

#1 I said people were saying a racer removed the tag did head and cam work and reinstalled a tag. So tags mean nothing, promoters must post tech engines with the proper tools to uphold their rules. So wow lets bring in more types of engines that promoters have to tech when they cant even do the one. #2 A little wisdom for you youngins. The more you talk sheet about a engine that 99% of the racers agreed on and use. The more these racers will not only fight anything you try and change but they also begin to not like you. I suggest after you guys show everyone this bad arse class 10 your buliding and actually race it. Then suggest an engine change , see if the majority will vote with you. Then you can change and spend the money like everyone else will have to. If you dont like the eco-tec then race SCORE or enter class 1 with other engines.Heck they keep up if you have enough seat time and are talented. Many are also suggesting that class 10 needs to be a pump gas 91 octane only class. Who's for that.

Ok ... that would be the dumbest idea ever ... but nevermind me, I'm the race gas guy. Ask the guys who were broke down on the side of the V2R course from 91 pump gas vapor locking their engine.

Talk about inconsistancy. But whatever ... good luck with "policing" that haha

Re: Baja 500: 3 Class 10's in the TOP 20!

If you guys want to fight again ... I'm out.

I've shown facts here of a reliable, afordable option ... that's been proven in a winning class 10 car. But you guys won't accept the facts ... keep calling it a $20,000 option. It was a $3500 engine. Yes, Matt used Motech ... but you could use Halltech for that matter ... less than $700.

Every car needs a header, engine plates, radiator, fans, etc ... so those numbers are a mute point.

I'm not fighting you guys here, just a difference opinion ... and YES ... a lot of people agree with me, just like a lot agree with you guys.

B-Dub, real question: how many EcoTech engines have you bought since the switch? (not talking crap, just asking)

on what? Can I assume with regard to opening class 10 engine rules to allow any stock engine with a maximum displacement of 2.4 liters? If that is the case, I would like to see the results of a poll that is open to anyone that currently owns a class 10.

option 1: current air cooled and water cooled displacement and stock 2.4 Ecotec
option 2: current air cooled and water cooled displacement and stock 2.4 engine

And I say only open to anyone that currently owns a class 10 because now that the majority of 10 car guys have the ecotec, Who wouldn't want to build a new car with the Honda, knowing that you would have 40 more HP and most guys will not jump ship from the ecotec because the went ecotec in the first place to be budget minded!
