Every.... Read that EVERY single back compression/break that I've ever come across, the driver/rider has been using a suspension seat.
I have done lots of research and a lot of fact finding of my own and I can say that I will NEVER get in a race car with a suspension seat.... Or without a HNR
I will note that desert trucks react different to short course trucks/buggies and I have never talked to anybody that has broken their back in a shortcourse race.
The only incident that I can think of is Rob Mac taking a tumble an injuring himself pretty good in a suspension seat.
There is a reason that every rally car driver uses a tub style seat! And they have about as much travel as a limited buggy.

Adam, there are a lot more circumstances involved when people get hurt rather than just "suspension seat". Mounting, seat belt angles, etc etc. I know Robbie Pierce also has some great research to back up suspension seats. If you want to discuss further, you have my number.

Pat is absolutely right. Much more goes into whether a person is hurt or not. It is not just the seat, but mounting, angles, belts, head and neck restraints. As Pat says, Mastercraft has done some extensive testing on their seats. Unreal the amount of technology that goes into them. All suspension seats are not created equal. I can tell you that no one in the suspension seat industry matches the testing, quality, and technology that goes into what Mastercraft is producing. The reason Mastercraft doesn't have the "certifications" that the hard shell seats do is strictly based on politics in my opinion. An American company and a European organization.... Need I say more. Mastercraft has passed the tests with flying colors. I hate to bring this up, but all of this negative talk about injuries to drivers in suspension seats and you all forget what type of seat Lobsam Yee was using when he had his recent crash..... I have toured the Mastercraft facilities and have seen how they test. I would be willing to go out on a limb and say that their isn't any seat company in the world that tests as extensivly as Mastercraft does. When our US Military goes to war I know what they are riding in and it isn't a hard shell. I had the pleasure of interviewing Robbie Pierce a few weeks back and he went very in depth on their testing process and technology. If you don't listen to the interview and hear what he has to say, you have no business posting negatives about suspension seats on here. Form your opinion based on facts, not what so and so has said or posted.

One thing nobody has mentioned is "Seat Adjusters" Most desert race vehicles have them and I doubt the FAA tests account for them, especially since most are custom built by the racers\fabricators and its hard to find two that are built the same.
I bring this up because while prepping my car last week, I noticed that the rails of the seat sliders on my seat were slightly bent and spyder cracked where the teeth go into the rail. I took a pretty hard tumble last year and I'm guessing that is where the damage came from.
Anyway, I did not see these bends and cracks before our last race. I took the green flag and .....click....click....click...the seat slid back like 3 inches. I battled with it sliding back and forth the whole race and had to loosen my belts to reach the clutch.....not advisable.
So I guess what I'm saying is that if I managed to bend and crack those rails in a limited buggy doing about a 60mph barrel roll.......What about an Unliimited car doing a 100mph pierot. Have there been any tests on specific seat sliders???

Absolutely agree Pat, too many variables. But the science behind not using a suspension seat just makes sense to me... That's all

And the tests that Mastercraft have put their seats through make using Mastercraft suspension seats good for me.
To be clear, I'm defending suspension seats here. I know tub non-suspension style seats are safe, not doubting that. Just defending the attacks on suspension seats. That is all...
