Re: RDC - LIVE Race coverage debriefing
Klaus, Fish, et al:
I was going to start a thread entitled "Hats Off to RDC!" for the great coverage. I really appreciated having all those sources on one page.
And the forums ramped up to normal warp speeds just in time as well.
I thought it was amazing and literally light years ahead of not too many moons ago.
When I lived in the Midwest (back w/ the buffalo), you were lucky to get a smattering of 500 coverage three-four months later, say, an October ish of Hot VW's...
Thanks, guys!
Hey! You kids!! Get OFF my driveway!!! If you can't go away happy, just go away!

Re: RDC - LIVE Race coverage debriefing
For a free source of info of my favorite sport broadcast from a different country, I think everyone got their moneys worth
Awesome job to all involved and volunteered
The cars I wanted to follow, IRC worked flawless, only one I could not see because the unit on the car was damaged
Maybe a tad longer live feed at the finish line to catch more cars and classes,
but im sure it was already a long few days for the RDC crew, so Im satisfied with what we got
Thanks again
Wayne

Re: RDC - LIVE Race coverage debriefing
Klaus I was home sick on Friday and Saturday. I was home during contingency and the race. Because of what RDC does I was able to follow the race though limited, it was enough for me. I appreciate any live or delayed coverage of the races. You guys rock. Thanks

Re: RDC - LIVE Race coverage debriefing
Thank you very much for this post Klaus. I completely understand that things happen. I have come to rely on the great coverage on RDC and I really appreciate the efforts you guys go through to give us the live feeds. When it doesn't work I have seizures.
I like the idea of replaying the start if it's possible.
Thanks again for addressing what went wrong. I will certainly be here watching and listening to the next one.

Re: RDC - LIVE Race coverage debriefing
The tracking is awesome, I'm simple though and I like to listen to the weatherman feed especially since you have tried to keep track of check point splits. I just like the excitment of Bob and the others handling the issues of the race.

Way to go guys. The live page was beneficial for the AGM team as I was able to get updates via the page while on the beach in Erindira!! Awesome awesome work!

Re: RDC - LIVE Race coverage debriefing
Being stuck at home for this race really sucked. But having RDC is the next best thing to actually being there. It's only going to get better from here on. Hell, ten years from now you guys might even have multiple live video streams. Thank you for all you do.

I, too, was stuck at home and definitly appreciated the ability to keep up with my teams progress throughout the day. Keep up the good work.

Re: RDC - LIVE Race coverage debriefing
just wanted to say thanks to klaus and the entire rdc team, mad media and the sponsors for the free race coverage from the baja 500 race. rdc is constantly trying to push the technology envelope for better race coverage in baja. and just like everything else involved in racing in baja things rarely go as planned.
this race the weatherman channel was plague with problems all day with stuck mics and some one from a junk yard in mexicali using the weather man radio frequency all day. which caused a lot of problems for the weather man. some one from mexicali needs to go pay that junk yard guy a visit.
the guys from mad media and the "monster energy same day race videos" are awesome. the logistics and turn around time on the editing is remarkable. mad media had people all over the course who all had to get back to ensenada and then edit and post the videos on line. i was watching those videos on utube the next morning while waiting in line at the boarder to cross back into the us. that is a pretty fast turn around time for some high quality race video coverage.
thanks to everyone involved in reporting the baja 500 race coverage.

Re: RDC - LIVE Race coverage debriefing
I appreciate all the hard work you guys do and I enjoy tracking the races from my home, I imagine this is what is was like to listen to big sporting events on the radio back in the 20's. You get to use your imagination a lot more.
I actually had a lot better info than my friend who was down there just to spectate. He was texting me asking for updates on how much time 1X and then Bryce had to get to the finish line.
Some more ideas:
Add the SCORE starting positions list to the live coverage page or a link to the pdf, I see a lot people asking: what time did so and so start or what number is jim bob running?
The video applet showed the approximate finish times and maybe the start times when vids were not playing. Possibly expand that list to show the event time limit and show the list on the page somewhere at all times.
Put something at the top of the page that tells the user you recommend xyz browser. I think that would help out a lot of the IE users who are not very computer literate. As you pointed out, IE is pretty terrible, I wouldn't waste a ton of effort trying to get your apps to work with it.
Get Beauxman to post his updates in the cover it live app as well as his facebook page. His facebook page had some great updates that weren't always posted on the cover it live list.
Can't wait for the 1000 when all the entries will be running live IRC trackers!
Thanks,
Trent
