Re: What is the most powerful front wheel drive engine from the factory?
That's a great video. Did some of those old wheelie cars run a Toronado/Eldorado drivetrain?
As I recall, some of those cars had plexiglass floors so the driver could see where he was going.
Have you seen the wheelie contests on the TV show On The Edge? It's entertaining when they flip, but lame compared to the old days.
I would like to see a sandrail wheelie master throw on some slicks and wheelie down a drag strip.

Trivia note: I think the Turbo 400 FWD was called a Turbo 425.
"Old guys" FU! I had a White 70 Eldorado with white leather and red carpet and trim. FWD means no transmission tunnel and a great front seat. I had it while going to college in Utah - awesome Ski car. Six frends bombing up the canyon with the 8 track cranked up. Pitch it sideways in the snow on the freeway with the rear parking brake on and you could hold it crossed up for miles taking up two whole lanes driving out the side window - OG drifter.

ECU mods or aftermarket must be cheaper and easier for the 5.3L LS4, right?

ECU in the case of the Caddy or Olds means Extra Carbon Utilized.

Re: What is the most powerful front wheel drive engine from the factory?
Ford's 3.7l V6 has 305hp and is used in some Ford Edge and some Lincolns. The 3.7l is also now available in the police version of the Explorer (the civvy Explorer gets a 3.5l only). The 3.5l version makes about 285hp and is more common. Techincally, the Ecoboost 3.5 is an awd application. It isn't available in FWD-only, but it is mounted the same as the FWD non-EB V6s.
GM uses the direct injected 3.6 V6 (from Camaro) in FWD applications and is also 305hp.
Nissans VQ V6 is also a solid performer. I think it is rated at something less than 300hp in Nissans, but there might be some Infinity applications that it is higher.
and Mopar also has a new V6 that is also rated somewhere just south of 300hp that is used in a number of applications including minivans.
Since these are all used in pony cars (can I call a 350/370Z a pony car?) in RWD applications, there may be some aftermarket support for them.
