    Game Changer???

So everyone knows about the Go Pro Hero 2. Now the wifi backpack has been released. This can be used inconjunction with something like the Verizon 4G MiFi and have LIVE Streaming anywhere in the world as long as there is an internet signal from the MiFi. People anywhere in the world will be able to tune in online or via smartphone during a race and see what is actually happening in the cab of the #15. I am very excited about this. What are your thoughts? Game Changer for LIVE event coverage?

Gonna be pretty damn awesome. I wonder if I can get enough $5 per race subscribers to fund my own TT team??

I think its possible. Lets say RDC has 35 Trophy Trucks from V2R with this setup streaming to RDC, I believe PPV could be possible. IRC has gone to PPV, and it isn't even close to this. The thing that no one thinks about, is that TT teams who put the system in their trucks will hold rights to the live streaming footage. They get to decide where and how the live stream is accessed. Contracts with websites? I don't know, lots to ponder and really the sky is the limit. For under $500 you can have this in your racecar. I will have this setup in my truck at V2R hopefully. Just waiting on a future update from GoPro for the live streaming to test it out.

Funny you bring this up.... I was looking at this too! When you say the backback has to have something like a Verizon 4G mifi, wouldn't that mean the whole course would have to have a cell signal!?! If so, how many courses/ the baja course has a cell signal? This is what kind-of turned me off a little from the idea, it seemed like a lot more than $500 the route I was looking at as well. I'm excited if it works out.... bummed we won't be the first! Oh well!!!

Your about three years behind what ive been doing, that being said, i will try the go pro setup too.

Otherwise, a good Smart phone with a good camera + Justin.tv works pretty cool for all your friends and family to watch you race, live.

tested this @ the Battle at primm back in 2009 and it worked great... Only downside.... Cell service....

Is there really internet coverage in the areas where our races occur? The majority of the Baja 500 and 1000 are run in areas where I'm pretty sure there is no coverage (except for the start and finish areas)..... Even the U.S. races are in fairly remote areas where internet coverage would be "iffy" at best. Without some sort of satellite link for the vehicle mounted units, it's not really going to be anything close to full coverage.... I doubt that the cell/internet providers are going to be interested in huge infrastructure investments in order to support a small group's desire to have real time coverage of desert racing. What am I missing here?

You'll need wireless service and a Smart Phone or Smart Device like an iPad to link to the GoPro. There will not be live streaming to the web, it will be live streaming to a Smart Device via a WiFi link between the devices. There should be streaming to the web eventually, but not as of now. There will be an App available in about a month that will allow you to control GoPro's with a Smart Device, but for now the unit being released will come with a remote control for 99.95. When the app is available, you'll be able to buy just the Wifi back for 59.95 and control it with a Smart Device.

We'll have them within a week were told-
