With a fan on it of course. I windmill of sort. One that moves with the car. Strapped on the roof. Plugged into the batteries to charge them. Then plug the batteries into the electric motors to run the car. Hmmmmm

What if you had solar produced ethanol? Could you fuel an internal combustion motor if there was a small solar powered refinery that only made race Ethanol for the 50k purse (from sun grown corn)?

Probably a bit rushed for this Mil but next year???

    Wait, disregard this post.

ANNOUNCING "7000' solar Ethanol LLC" coming soon.......

I have a friend building a Electric class 10 car for this right now. Gonna have to switch 400lb batteries at each pit. I can't see it working very well but we will see.

The technology is here and this could be done now. However it would cost millions and take years of refining with the right team of people to have a shot at the overall victory.

with a windmill on the roof, you could have the helicopter fly really close to really get that sucker moving, although i guess all the fuel for the chopper defeats the purpose!

Did you see the hybrid Toyotas in the Le Mans race? Killer acceleration off the turns from the stored energy.

No disrespect ment but how is this possible when we have serious problems with the "race" batteries that we use now? heck even big time companies like Sony ,Apple, Tesla,Chevy and Fiskar have had/are having problems with their batteries..or am I missing something, cng powered gas turbine maybe? TON of money to be sure

Re: $50,000 1st Place Prize to Baja1000 Winner in the new category!

Here are the two rules as I understand them: 1. purely electric-powered vehicle. 2. electricity to charge batteries must come from photovoltaic source (solar cells).

Initially, I thought there had to be onboard solar charging, but I guess not. The batteries in the pits just need to have been charged via solar electricity. That changes my outlook. I also suppose that economics and practicality don't count for this challenge.

This can be done, I suppose, if you have fully-charged battery banks at each pit, and the electric motors can handle the dirt/silt/mechanical shock. Since at least half of the run will be in darkness, I would say that the current draw from the driving lights would seriously jeopardize the run, but I suppose LED light bars make this possible. What is the wattage drawn from a capable LED light bar?

This whole challenge will certainly be interesting to follow. I would like to see some updates from Redstone Energy Group. I also want to be corrected if I have misunderstood the contest rules.

FYI: "Monster" Nobihuro Tajima, last year's absolute record setter, is running an all-electric open-class car at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb this year. I suspect he will set a new time record with the 100% paved course. His vehicle is totally badazz. Gonna be a tough decision.... HDRA Reno July 7 or Pikes Peak July 8?
