Re: If you had to push the RESET button on classes....

But back to the subject at hand.....If your going to hit the reset button why not hit the reset button on the economy since this whole post is based on wishes and dreams..... And why does everyone on the internet think THEY should be the ones to decide what or how many classes there are.....If your happy with the class you race in then thats great, if your not then change classes but leave the rest of the guys that invested in the class they race in alone....It seems like a lot of people have nothing better to do then dream up changes to other classes to suit the way they feel about racing. If the changes are not based on safety concerns then you dont need to reset anything. Some of you are like a bunch of old ladies dreaming up the way you think it should be.... If your in doubt just reach down and see if you have enough balls to race in one of the classes just the way they are.

I agree...what ever is going to happen will happen as the sport progresses and it should not be at the risk of existing classes. It will devalue the worth of the vehicles when you go to sell them as well as growing the existing classes.

SCORE only needs five 4 wheel classes - just look at the entries.

    Trophy Truck
    Unlimited Open Wheel
    Sportsman Truck
    Sportsman Open Wheel
    1/2-1600 (For real racers)

    The rest are just strokers.

All the other promoters can deal with all the other class - I think they all have Ecotec motors in them.

Ramsey I agree with you 95%. But no love for class 8? Or is it time to get rid of all the production based classes? I think stock mini and stock full should be kept, but should be a combined class. I love 7s and class 8 but lack of entress makes you ask why we still have them. Although class 8 had a strong showing with 20 trucks at the Mint 400 this year.

You must note that my comments are for SCORE only. SCORE should become the "Show" of desert racing. All the other promoters can do whatever they want for the lesser classes.

Class 8 trucks will fit right in with Sportsman Truck.

So with your new plan for SCORE how is Sal going to replace the 50 + entries He has to turn away ??? And what about the guys that have invested their money into cars that you no longer think should be able to run??? Are you going to purchase all their cars or should we just say f..k them based on your narrow minded opinion??? Your plan leaves lot to be desired... If your getting rid of all the classes then why not axe all the sportsman classes as well ?? I guess it's easy for you to think about eliminating all those classes because YOU have nothing to loose because you no longer compete with your own car.

Re: If you had to push the RESET button on classes....

Because it's the internet and ultimately none of this amounts to anything more than just a bunch of people spouting opinions and arguing for the sake of argument, I will include my own irrelevan thoughts. First, I can't help but wonder if this argument would have existed 30 years ago. I know there are many here who were around the sport participating as far back as the 70s/80s and I'd be interested to hear their thoughts. I was an outside observer as a spectator but my impression of the sport 30 years ago is that it was far more inclusive than it is these days. In large part it was about man and machine pushing themselves to the limit against the elements. In many cases the competition was as much the desert as it was other vehicles. Just finishing used to mean something.

These days it seems that more and more folks believe this should be an exclusive sport, that it's not for everyone, that if you can't afford the top of the line everything you shouldn't be racing to begin with, that if you aren't going to win you are wasting your time, etc. I could be wrong but I just don't feel like those points of view were as prevelant back in the good old days. These days just finishing a race doesn't seem to have the same sense of status that it did in days gone by. If you didn't win, no one cares anyway. All those old Mint 400 "Finisher" pins used to be pretty coveted I thought.

My point here I guess is that for a variety of reasons it seems that the sport is getting farther and farther away from being an inclusive, family fun sport with room for everyone. Maybe it's "progression" but if cutting more and more people out of the opportunity to be a part of this sport is considered to be it's logical evolution, then I will say that I am sad to see the sport I grew up loving take such a dramatic turn.

And Ramsey, no offense but while I agree that SCORE and especially Baja should be the "show" I completely disagree with your way to make that happen. The 1000 is world renowned as the crown jewel of this sport and one of the most recognized races in ALL of motorsports. It should be as absolutely inclusive as possible in my opinion. People come from all over the world to take their crack at the Baja. It would be like saying you can't attempt the Ironman or Boston marathon unless you're capable of running 5 minute miles. Especially in races like the Baja, I don't care if a class has one entry, for that one guy, team, family, the opportunity to race what they built could mean more than you know.

FYI, the Boston Marathon does have a time restriction, you have to be invited and be capable of running (I believe) a 3 hour marathon.
