    Re: Shortcourse UNIFICATION??...is it here??

What's the movie where the aliens invade and when asked what they want respond with "We want you to die...." Well, as a TORC driver / owner I kept thinking of that scene and ol' Bob as that alien.

I agree with Leduc in that 1% of possitive effort can beat 99% of avoidance and hate. I have a lot of respect for Rob Mac and add another "try again" to his comments. The war that Bob wants is going to hurt the sport and teams. It's sad that the biggest threat to my livelihood is coming from within the sport itself. While LOORS is scheduling events over Crandon and trying to protect "their" drivers from the free market, TORC has responded by matching pro-light rules and welcoming anyone who comes east. I personally make an effort to welcome and get to know any team new to TORC.

TORC does not need permission to hold a race in CA. It is not at a track that LOORS has ever used and it is not on a weekend that LOORS is racing. I've heard from 2 sources (uninvolved with short course) that LOORS is looking at San Angelo, TX. Does anyone think TORC was on the confrence call??? Ever since the meeting that Bob alluded to occurred, TORC has been focussed on bettering their own series - not getting ahead by trying to take out their competitor. I hope they continue on this path. I would bet that the positive effort TORC is making is going to go further than the hate brewing at Lucas.

He talked about all the other types of racing they do but none of it has as much airtime as the short coarse offroad series does. Obviously it's making them money now to the level they have it at. Short corse is making it because if it wasn't the stadium series thats coming wouldn't be in the near future. I'll say this those other forms of racing don't pay the kind of dollars off roaders are to put their shows on for the crowds. Maybe more competition with more places to race will bring down the cost to keep your teams faithfull to put your show on.

    Re: Shortcourse UNIFICATION??...is it here??

I feel like I’ve seen this movie before. When the sanctioning bodies go to war it’s the fans & racers who are the causalities. We the fans and participants are the ones who lose in the long run. If you don’t believe me, research the history of CART & Indy Car.

If you live on the West Coast and are invested in Lucas, whether as a fan, racer, sponsor, or a business that benefits from short course why wouldn’t you support Lucas? The Lucas series has brought short course racing back to our region. Just think about what we have with 8 weekends of highly competitive racing and the regional series in California, Arizona, and Utah. I personally believe the current short course racing by Lucas is the best it has ever been. I don’t know if TORC is committed to replicate what Lucas has done on the West coast or not. What I do know is that Lucas has shown their commitment to our region, and I for one will support them. I’m only a Trophy Kart Dad, but I plan on having a pro team soon with my son or my own car, or both. That’s why I load up my family in the motorhome and make the long trip to Utah when work is busy and money is tight. I do it to support the sport I love and the people who give me the opportunity to participate in it. That why I’m going to load up the fam & drive to Reno, to show my support.

Let’s face it, there are only a few competitors that are willing or capable of running in both series. They are the minority. I may not be able to speak for the majority of the competitors & fans, but I believe most of us are content with what Lucas has done here and aren’t planning on traveling back East to get our racing fix. I’m not interested in what TORC does back east because I don’t live there and I don’t compete there, and that’s OK. I would feel the same if I lived in North Carolina, I would support TORC. So bottom line is we west coast racers should think hard about what Bob says in this video. What will we gain by supporting a competitive series in California?

We may never know if Bob from Lucas is telling us the truth or not. But if he is right about the TV coverage, then we should do whatever it takes to make it happen.

If you don’t read anything else in this post, PLEASE READ THIS, we the racers & fans will lose if TORC & LUCAS continue to wage war. We will lose the racing we have now. Lucas & AMS Oil will still be in business, Forest Lucas & Jenkins Bros will still have millions of dollars, and the people running the series will find other jobs, but we will lose the opportunity to participate in our sport, whether as a hobby or a career. Pick a side and support them the best you can. If you live & race in the western states, your choice should be obvious. There is enough racing for both of them. My two cents

    Re: Shortcourse UNIFICATION??...is it here??

I did not get to hear this first hand and Im glad that someone posted it up. One over my first thoughts was since Torc announced this race was if anyone from Lucas was contacted to Participate in this Venture? And the answer was no. If Torc really wanted to have a solid benefit cup race to honor the Husemans and included the Lucas pool of drivers they would have made the effort and at least made a few calls! Jenkins new exactly what he was doing when he changed venues and put this race in Lucas's backyard. They, Torc could have honored Rick and Jeff with a cup race from the original Texas location. Everybody all wants the same thing for there to be one series, well I have spoken to many teams that have run both, and they all say the same thing. Lucas is the best place to be. This is why 2 more very high profile teams will be leaving and coming to the West Coast next year and that will put it a little closer to being one series!

I could see them wanting to do that. The Lucas Oil Drag boat series draws some of it's biggest crowds down there even though the wind usually factors in and shortens the event. However, just like the LOORS vs TORC stuff, the Lucas boat series is in a pissing contest with the Southern Drag Boat Association and as a result the Lucas series had less than half the number of boats show up in San Angelo this year vs last.
