so, you've got a little money left after you got your new geiser or jimco tt built and you want to buy a new grocery getter . available are the 2013 ford shelby gt 500 @662 hp, the 2013 camaro zl1 @580 hp or the 2013 zr1 vette @ 637 hp. personally, i like the looks of the two chevys but i'd go with the ford. the reasons are easy. the mustang gets 24 mpg [that blows my mind] and starts out cheaper @ 54k...how bout you?....

i'm not sure that the vette would blow the shelby away on the track in stock configuration. last years boss 302 smoked the vette at willow springs and this years shelby beat the boss by a half second. i have no idea how ford engineers got that kind of mileage...either way, you paid too much for the slower of the three hock..but i think you're right about the camaro's looks.

after some checking around, it's clear that the mustang isn't in the same league on the road course type tracks as the vette and maybe i should'nt have even put in the thread. for 45k more than the mustang, it ought to be faster. regarding the mileage, the claim is for 24 on the highway and 18 i think it was overall.

Shelby all the way - in 30 years, I think the Shelby will be worth more and less common, but I'm a jaded Ford dork

That's what I meant, on a road course the Vette will completely dominate the Shelby. No contest. However I don't race super cars on tracks very often(lol) so I would still have the Camaro based on its looks.

And my truck gets 10 mpg at 300 hp so 18 at 662 is still very impressive. Lmao

Best buy in the whole dang world is a 2007 ZO6 Vette. Waaaay gnarly and you can easily find them with under 20,000 miles for under 45k.

In my price range would be the fairly basic 2013 6 speed manuel Mustang gt with the new track pack. Looking at 35k for a serious machine.

I'd love a boss 302 but at that price the used ZO6 is screaming my name!


Or I guess buy a used f-150 and let Jerry trick it out at Camburg! I'm pretty sure that's his answer for everything!!!

I'd pick the Camaro too. But I'm a Chevy guy. But seriously the Camaro is a better looking car than the Mustang especially the ugly rear the Stance sports!!! The Vette would probably be the best track day car but for a grocery getter I'd have to go with one of the "pony" cars. For collector status where the car would be sealed in a clean room for the next 50-years the Shelby would definitely be the best choice. But I would rather drive and enjoy the car so again, I'd pick the Camaro.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of these cars. I guess it comes down to personal preference and what you wanna do with the car.
