Fuel mileage at elevation
We are going to Reno for the fireworks 500. I googled fuel mileage at higher elevations and I found contrary Information. Is there much of a change in fuel mileage at higher elevations compared to sea level. By the way the car is a class 12 fat motor with a plenum. Thanks

Re: Fuel mileage at elevation
Modern fuel injection will only put in enough fuel to burn the available air "O2". Non feedback engines will run richer at higher altitude therefor poorer mileage.

Re: Fuel mileage at elevation
I understand the concept. I guess my question is if I jet the car to a near perfect air fuel ratio. Would the engine get worse mileage because the air is thinner, even though I compensated with a leaner fuel jet. If there is any change it would be minimal and I understand that. It's not important, just something I was scratching my head over.

Re: Fuel mileage at elevation
For fuel mileage I am thinking it will be near the same allowing air fuel ratio is the same. Peak horsepower will be reduced as if you had a smaller carb or intake system.Yup good head scratcher.
Best of luck for the race!.

Re: Fuel mileage at elevation
The motor is going to use the same amount of fuel but because the motor will be down on hp forcing you to drive it harder which would reduce mileage A little off topic but plenums are tough to deal with at altitude. My 12 car was I constant jetting battle.
