How balanced are Honda Cranks??
So im asking this all over the place and im getting tons of different stories from some very reliable sources. I dont have the convenience of anybody close to me that can see how far out it is. I have a brand new crf450R Crank for a 2005 and I am debating on sending it out. Some guys say it is pointless and i am just going to be wasting precious time and money on sending it out. I have done research and know who to send it to, but even they are not even certain; so im looking for some first hand answers. What have you guys run into?

If its all OEM I would thknk you are fine, I have never balanced a Motorcycle crank, but unless you swaped out part of the rotating assembly I think it would be a waste.

Re: How balanced are Honda Cranks??
In my opinion there are hundreds of better ways to spend your money on your bike performance/upgrade wise...but maybe you have already done a lot of other things or there is a specific reason you want to have the crank balanced on a CRF250...in that case get a Falicon knife rod and balanced crank.
If you're gonna do it, I'd do it that way.

like they said if you didnt change anything on the rotating assembly just leave it stock.. if you did then yes send it.. its about the same principle as a car..

Generally on just about all of the Japanese single cylinder M/C engines the OEM crankshaft is 2 grams or less out of balance from end to end. Heck rarely will you find a 4 cylinder Honda cranksaft out more than 5 grams. How important is "perfect" ?

More important would be making sure the new piston/wrist pin weighs the same as the old one.

Re: How balanced are Honda Cranks??
Thanks for the replies. I know i would have to balance it if i went with an aftermarket rod. But i dont like going that route on desert bikes. I spoke with a company who actually said if the crank is balanced, they would remove weight from the counter balancer. I do run a heavier flywheel, but never thought about getting a heavier basket. perfect isn't that important, i just feel that i should dial in the 05 for how much i race it.
