American 1000
If there is one thing I love more than desert racing, it would be even more desert racing, and good races at that.
For those of you that are heading up here for the HDRA Fireworks 500, it is shaping up to be an awesome event. I was just at the start finish area yesterday, and a lot of things are happening to make it a great venue for years to come. The payback is great, the scenery and unique terrain will be a great challenge and a ton of fun. I am very excited for this race.
Even better, there is the second running of the Vorra USA 500 one week later. Classic wide open desert racing, 150 to 250 mile loops, open pre running, entry fees about $550, the race course was laid out by the legend Rod Hall, and the start is 25 minutes from Reno. VORRA has been putting on great Desert and short course racing non stop for the last 37 years.
The combined entry fees for the HDRA and VORRA races are less than half of what the Baja 1000 is, and you get a week to fix stuff in between. Beautiful Lake Tahoe is 25 minutes from Reno, there are a ton of great places to stay, and eat for the whole family. There is also an international airport 5 minutes from everything.
We have a 11,000 sf. full race prep and fab shop, we can help do a quick prep in between these two great races, and I can also offer free secure gated storage for your chase vehicles. Let me know how we can help.
With two great 500 mile races, Lucas Oil Short Course racing, Rubicon and Fordyce trails close by, Reno is turning into the new off road mecca, dont miss out!

Nice offer Sam! Can't wait for all the racing in Reno the next couple of months.
Samco is too humble to mention that he overalled the VORRA USA 500 last year in his 7200 truck so I will mention it for him. With all the added competition this year it is going to be hard to defend his title with a six cylinder under the hood!

Re: American 1000
me thinks there should be a big prize for all racers who complete the whole thousand miles.... and a giant prize for an "overall" combination winner for both weekends.

I agree with this. Neither promoter is too keen on my idea, but I am excited for the idea. Next year if things are the same schedule, I want to start a website and find a couple of small sponsors. Get a few bucks together for a side bet.
American 1000 could be a great 10 day race with a vacation in between.
July is a great month to go North for racing. Temps are perfect here.

Re: American 1000
Great idea Sam. I was bummed to hear both 500 mile races were so close to each other. I was hoping to make it up for both but it's not looking like I will make it to either one....
I've been to both HDRA events this year and they were great, and it sounds like their 500 is going to be another great race. I've also been a long time fan of VORRA having raced with them in the 90's and now filming their races whenever I have a chance to get up there. The courses are great, easy access to film and they are very well organized.
