GoPro Live Streaming
Hmmm... GoPro should have their "live streaming" setup out soon. Using a Wifi backpack thethered to a 3g or 4g smartphone may offer the first realtime view on the web of an in-car camera. I am hoping to do this for the gals in our car for the PP race in October. Barstow has great Verizon 3G coverage in almost all areas of the PP race course.
Has anyone else looked at this?

Re: GoPro Live Streaming
I saw some live coverage from a passenger car during yesterday's dust storm on the local NBC outlet.
Video and audio quality were good. Signal stayed strong.

Re: GoPro Live Streaming
We have several hundred gopros here at work that we use for all the motorsports production. The wifi units are pretty awesome!
However, there were some initial issues with them locking up the Hero2 units randomly. The lockup's required removing the battery from the gopro camera. I THINK they got it all figured out with the latest firmware and cineform updates. This was on our private wifi network. I'm very curious about using 3G/4G to accomplish the streaming. The other downside is that the battery is non removable/replaceable which will eventually come into play.
The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't.

First time I'd seen the effort, not sure of exact tech, but station was taking live a/v signal on air, and not via conventional microwave link.
Anchor in studio was hyping "OUR new technology.
BTW, does a microwave link work at all in an intense dust storm? Rain has an impact.

Re: GoPro Live Streaming
has anyone figured out how to live stream the video from a tablet or smartphone? I'm looking at trying to stream part of race but haven't figured out how to get the phone to stream the video online. All the races I go to have good cell coverage so streaming wont be the issue.

Re: GoPro Live Streaming
These are industrial cell/wifi bridges. I work in the ambulance business (sand/dust/blood/water) and we have hundreds of them. No need to reboot like a linksys and they support a bunch of wireless subscriptions on the wifi side. They will pump a LOT more throughput compared to a mifi because of the power of the radios. YMMV
