Big Air Young Guns!
Even though Bob Bernquist took the Gold, I think there is definatley going to be a changing of the guard at X Games Big Air next year.
Mitchie Brusco, Tom Schaar, Jaeger and Jet Eaton are stepping up the game in a huge way. My son skated with Tom at the Ultimate Boarder a couple of years back and the kid was amazing then. The Eaton brothers come up to PC to skate once in a while and did some cross training with the snowboard team over winter and the kids are fearless.
I think having access to places like Woodward, foam pits and air bags play a big part in the fact that these kids get younger and younger every year.......1080s will be on lock next year.

I remember when Tony Hawk pulled his first 900. It was groundbreaking, a game changer... Now these little twerps are popping off 1080s like its nothing. Granted, back then there were no real training facilities and the ramps were dwarfs compared to what there is available to practice on now, but still...
This is some impressive stuff were seeing.

Dan I was talking to some co- workers tonight about this - are there training places with that big of a jump set up year round for training - That was amazing! First year I got into watching X games and liking it far more than the Olympics...

I had a friend and he and his family were the Vans demo team in the mid 70's and had a plexiglass 1/2 pipe that took up their entire backyard for practicing on - The neighbors hated it but the kids came for miles to check it out! I wasnt aware that people had that much real estate open for that kind of a set up.

Re: Big Air Young Guns!
Bernquist has a mega ramp in his back yard in Vista. The original Woodward has a full time mega set up.
I was at a skate comp yesterday talking to an old school bowl skater who's in his 40s and he has a hard time with the young kids just popping on the scene with one trick... he says they need to earn their stripes. I can see his point but if a kid has the talent and the resources to train on state of the art ramps and foam pits, then I say all the power to them. We have access to an indoor bowl and mini-mega into a foam pit and it gives the kids an opportunity to get some air awareness while practicing bigger tricks, then transfer it to the vert ramp or park. Guys that pioneered the mega like Danny Way and Bob Bernquist had no choice but to throw down and go for it. I have all the respect in the world for them and the younger kids owe them a ton for paving the way and breaking themselves off in the process.
My son slammed hard in a bowl comp yesterday, really shouldn't have taken his next run but he insisted he was OK. After his last run he road straight out of the gate and said " we need to go to the hospital". Turns out he had a concussion and a broken arm. If I knew he was concussed, there is no way I would have let him take that next run. Concrete hurts like hell and having tramps and foam pits to practice big tricks definately helps to cut down on the ER visits.

LOL at bitter 40 yr old skaters...
To me, skateboarding has always been a youth driven sport. Now if these kids who that seem to be popping up out of nowhere on the mega ramp scene are some one trick ponies then thats lame. I kinda doubt thats the case though. Since xgames started there has been a movement for a few to really train for competitions. They take it seriously and you cant just all of a sudden be good at the mega ramp so Im guessing they are actually really talented and are lucky and smart enough to have access to a place to practice and to do it. The industry will support them because they get TV coverage and i bet while they may be mega ramp specialists, they can also bust on a mini ramp, street course and a buss bench. Nobdy starts on a mega ramp, they start on their drive way and work they up to it.
