If you run swepco 714 -20
170-220 pan temp good range
Max 300 pan temp put it in park or start crawling to let it cool never turn off it will heat soak
Converter out:
Optimum 180-270
High 300s you have cooling issues
I prefer 714-30 wt I can lean on the converter a lil harder.
Best thing is to measure the converter out temp that is the show stopper there! the pan is normally 100 +- deg cooler
The oil can and has recovered from 475deg converter out (didn't turn on the fans in the pro 2 and Prerunner once ) but the seals start leaking and next thing to happen is a crazy oil fire ! If you don't cool it quickly

I've seen a lot of these threads but I don't remember anybody ever saying how to measure the fluid coming out of the converter. Is that simply the line out of the trans to the cooler? I take my temp in the pan and with a pair of plate coolers in front of the radiator (solid engine fan) I rarely see over 200 in my truck. Usually its down around 180.
Just walk away. I will give you safe passage in the Wasteland. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror. I await your answer.----The Lord Humongous
The line out of the trans is "converter out" the hottest place on the trans system.
All of our race cars have an inline temp sensor on the Out, in , pan the trophy trucks have a flow sensor too but not necessary on the Prerunner
